Job Description - OB Sonographer 3 - USFTGP Physician Services Genesis (2600030P) Job Description OB Sonographer 3 - USFTGP Physician Services Genesis - ( 2600030P ) Description The OB Sonographer III performs advanced and high-risk OB/GYN ultrasound examinations under the direction of Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) and GYN Imaging physicians while adhering to established protocols and quality standards. This role is responsible for obtaining pertinent clinical history, correlating that information with the indicated examination, and using independent judgment to acquire all required images, anatomical documentation, and measurements. The Sonographer must demonstrate expert knowledge of fetal and gynecologic anatomy, physiology, pathology, and sonographic principles, and is expected to deliver compassionate, patient-centered care aligned with USFTGP’s mission, vision, and values. The OB Sonographer III routinely performs specialized OB and GYN procedures— including Level II fetal anatomy, fetal echocardiography, Doppler studies, saline infusion sonohysterography, and ultrasound guidance for invasive procedures—and supports a collaborative, respectful work environment. Other duties may be assigned as needed. Essential Functions Performs high-risk OB/GYN ultrasound procedures according to established MFM and GYN Imaging protocols and physician directives. Obtains, reviews, and correlates patient clinical history with the indicated examination to ensure complete and accurate imaging. Uses independent judgment to obtain all necessary images, measurements, and documentation for diagnostic interpretation. Performs GYN imaging procedures including 2D/3D sonograms, saline infusion sonohysterography, Hysterosalpingogram-Contrast Sonograms, and ultrasound guidance for various GYN procedures. Conducts OB imaging studies such as early pregnancy viability, nuchal translucency evaluations, fetal growth assessments, biophysical profiles, fetal anatomy/Level II exams, and Doppler studies. Performs advanced fetal echocardiography and assists with ultrasound guidance for invasive procedures including amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling. Ensures accurate image acquisition, labeling, documentation, and timely submission of studies for physician review. Provides professional, compassionate, and empathetic patient care while clearly explaining procedures and ensuring patient comfort. Collaborates effectively with providers, sonographer supervisors, and clinical team members to maintain workflow efficiency and quality care standards. Supports departmental operations by demonstrating professionalism, maintaining a respectful work environment, and participating in continuing education and competency development. Qualifications Technical Program - Accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program American Registry Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) OB/GYN Basic Life Support Minimum of 3 years of OB/GYN sonography experience required. Must demonstrate current knowledge and level of expertise generally obtained through national certification required to perform high-risk OB/GYN sonograms.
