Operational Accounting Consultant | Singapore | 1-year Contract | 100% Remote Work
We are partnering with a leading global technology company to appoint an experienced Operational Accounting Consultant to support its finance team in Singapore.
This is a hands-on role for an accounting professional with strong operational accounting fundamentals who can independently manage core accounting activities, navigate financial systems and reporting tools, and take ownership of assigned deliverables in a fast-paced global environment.
Key Responsibilities
Month-End Close & Accounting Operations
- Execute month-end close activities accurately and within tight timelines, including preparation and review of journal entries, accruals, prepayments, reversals, true-ups and other accounting adjustments.
- Manage and resolve intercompany accounting activities, including intercompany cross-charges and reconciliations.
- Apply sound accounting judgement and understand the rationale behind standard accounting procedures and transactions.
Reconciliations & Financial Reporting
- Independently own and complete balance sheet reconciliations, investigating aged or unusual items and driving timely resolution.
- Support financial reporting activities and perform analytical reviews to identify discrepancies, trends and potential issues.
- Review financial data and provide clear explanations for movements and variances.
Analysis, Systems & Controls
- Navigate financial systems, reporting tools and dashboards to retrieve, analyse and validate financial information.
- Perform routine financial analysis and apply critical thinking to identify issues rather than relying solely on prescribed procedures.
- Support internal controls and ensure compliance with accounting policies and standard operating procedures.
Ownership & Process Improvement
- Take full ownership of assigned activities and proactively manage deliverables through to completion with minimal supervision.
- Identify knowledge gaps and independently leverage available documentation, training resources and stakeholders to resolve issues.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.
- Work closely with cross-functional and global stakeholders to resolve accounting and reporting matters.
Desired Experience & Requirements
- Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5+ years of relevant hands-on accounting experience, ideally within a multinational or global organisation.
- Strong practical experience in month-end close and operational accounting, including journal entries, accruals, prepayments, reversals, true-ups and intercompany accounting.
- Demonstrated experience independently preparing and owning balance sheet reconciliations and investigating reconciling items.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and the ability to apply sound judgement beyond following established procedures.
- Experience performing financial analysis, analytical reviews and variance investigation.
- Comfortable working with financial systems, ERP platforms and reporting dashboards; experience with SAP or Oracle is advantageous.
- Advanced Excel skills and the ability to work confidently with large datasets. SQL experience is advantageous.
- Experience within a global multinational environment is essential; exposure to the technology industry is highly desirable.
- Previous audit experience is beneficial but candidates must also demonstrate strong hands-on operational accounting experience.
- Self-driven, proactive and comfortable working independently in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
This opportunity will suit a commercially minded accountant who enjoys solving problems, taking ownership and contributing beyond routine task execution. The successful candidate should be able to quickly build confidence in managing core accounting processes independently while working effectively within a dynamic global finance team.
