Role Description The Owner role at the International Association of Professional Writers and Editors is a part-time, remote position responsible for overseeing the organization’s strategic direction and daily operations. The Owner will guide business planning, set organizational goals, and ensure that services and resources align with the needs of writers and editors. Typical tasks include managing partnerships, overseeing marketing and outreach initiatives, reviewing and improving member services, and supervising contractors or vendors as needed. The role also involves monitoring financial performance, maintaining the association’s online presence, and making decisions that support sustainable growth and a positive professional community. The Owner will work independently, using digital tools to manage operations and communicate with stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Experience in leadership, business ownership, or organizational management, with the ability to set strategy and oversee daily operations.
- Background in writing, editing, publishing, or content creation, with a strong understanding of professional standards in these fields.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate with members, partners, and contractors in a remote environment.
- Proficiency with digital tools and platforms used for remote work, online community management, and basic website or social media administration.
- Basic financial literacy, including budgeting, revenue tracking, and decision-making to support sustainable growth.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing organizational needs.
- Experience in membership organizations, associations, or professional networks is beneficial.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, English, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent practical experience.
