Work Arrangement: Hybrid – Position requires the employee to be hybrid full-time 3x a week.

The Role

This position is responsible for developing, validating, and implementing specialized containers and packaging solutions for components and assemblies shipped to GM assembly plants. The role supports Supply Chain and Logistics business objectives by optimizing container density, protecting part quality, improving material-handling processes, controlling costs, and delivering robust packaging solutions across the supply base, logistics operations, and manufacturing plants.

The position works cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, logistics, suppliers, service providers, and other stakeholders to translate business and operational requirements into effective packaging designs. The role also supports relationship management with logistics suppliers and service providers, future program milestones, packaging strategy studies, financial planning, engineering changes, and sustainable packaging initiatives.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop, validate, and implement specialized, standard, and expendable packaging for components and assemblies shipped to GM assembly plants.
  • Execute deliverables that support Logistics and Supply Chain objectives, including customer satisfaction, quality, service, responsiveness, people, product, and financial performance.
  • Manage packaging activities for future programs, including localization, delocalization, engineering changes, BTAB initiatives, and logistics strategy studies.
  • Provide plant engineering support, including PRTS and PRT tracking for legacy and new packaging solutions.
  • Partner with suppliers, service providers, plants, and cross-functional stakeholders to develop robust, cost-effective solutions that meet supply chain and manufacturing requirements.
  • Protect part quality while optimizing container density, transportation, storage, line-side presentation, ergonomics, safety, handling, assembly operations, and facility layout.
  • Review and improve packaging designs, materials, and processes while identifying and eliminating waste across logistics, manufacturing, and material handling.
  • Lead multiple packaging projects and validate solutions through loading, transportation, unloading, and plant implementation to ensure design robustness.
  • Develop packaging forecasts, coordinate initiatives, and provide financial inputs for logistics cost reduction and budget planning.
  • Coordinate sustainable packaging initiatives to reduce CO2 emissions and minimize dunnage, including wood, plastic, and cardboard.
  • Identify and resolve technical problems, roadblocks, and complaints, including issues that require updates to methods when defined procedures are not available.
  • Influence stakeholders to adopt new concepts, practices, and approaches, and communicate effectively across organizational levels, functions, suppliers, external partners, and regulatory agencies.
  • Deliver results in alignment with GVDP milestones and due dates while promoting GM values and customer-focused decisions.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Experience or academic background in packaging engineering, manufacturing, logistics, supply chain, materials handling, or a related area.
  • Advanced English proficiency.
  • Availability to work flexible hours and travel to plants, suppliers, or other business locations when required.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Knowledge of Power BI, KNIME, or Python.
  • Previous experience in logistics operations, packaging, or material handling.
