At Jimerson Birr, our team has accepted the lasting responsibility of protecting our clients’ rights, businesses, properties, investments, and finances.
Our professionals are integral, trusted advisers and advocates in both established and emerging businesses, giving our clients insights into legal and business considerations that guide prudent decision-making. We work with some of the world’s most respected and well-established businesses, as well as start-up visionaries, and individuals looking to overcome challenges.
About the Role
Jimerson Birr is hiring a Paralegal to support our General Business Advisory team, working across corporate, employment, and intellectual property matters, with particular depth in trademark practice. You’ll be the person keeping deals, filings, and disputes moving on time, across a docket that touches entity work, HR-adjacent employment matters, and brand protection.
Trademark work is where this seat earns its keep. You’re fluent in ESTTA, comfortable pulling and tracking TTAB files, and you know the difference between an Office Action that needs a quick response and an Opposition that needs a real strategy conversation. Madrid Protocol filings don’t rattle you, the USPTO’s systems are simply part of your daily toolkit, not something you have to relearn each time.
Across the rest of the docket, you move between corporate filings, contract review, and employment documents without losing your footing, adjusting your pace as deadlines shift. You’d rather run a proven checklist than reinvent one, and you trust a process that already works instead of second-guessing it matter to matter. You stay even-keeled under a full plate: factual, direct, and clear-headed when a matter gets tense.
This is your seat if:
• You can navigate ESTTA, TTAB dockets, Office Actions, Oppositions, and Madrid Protocol filings without a learning curve.
• You want structure and independence in the same job: a defined process to run, and the latitude to run it yourself.
• Deadlines and shifting priorities sharpen your focus rather than throwing you off.
• You’d rather perfect a checklist that already works than build a new one from scratch every time.
• You stay factual and steady when a matter gets tense, and keep the details straight under a full docket.
What You'll Do
Support Trademark and Brand Protection
• Support trademark strategy, clearance screening, and USPTO filings: including ESTTA submissions, Office Action responses, and TTAB docket tracking for oppositions.
• Track and support Madrid Protocol filings for international trademark protection.
• Prepare trademark brand use guidelines and policing materials, and support cease-and-desist work for trademark and other IP infringement.
• Support copyright basics: work-for-hire language, assignments, and licensing.
• Triage domain and name disputes, including UDRP coordination and takedown letters.
Support Contracts and Day-to-Day Advisory
• Support day-to-day, fast-turn contract review and negotiation.
• Support outside general counsel advisory work: on-call questions, minor issues, and dispute prevention.
• Prepare dispute prevention packages, including demand letters and playbooks.
• Support vendor risk management: security addenda, DPAs, and SLAs.
• Support privacy policy and website terms updates for baseline compliance.
Support Employment Matters
• Prepare and maintain employment handbooks and policy suites.
• Support employment and independent contractor agreements, including standard noncompete, nonsolicit, confidentiality, and NDA terms.
• Support workforce matters: discipline, separations, releases, and restructuring.
• Support HR investigations into workplace complaints.
Support Compliance and Risk Programs
• Support trade secret hygiene programs: confidentiality controls and onboarding/offboarding checklists.
• Support operational legal audits across contracts, compliance, and HR.
• Support policy and process mapping: SOPs, approvals, and delegation frameworks.
• Support codes of conduct, conflicts policies, and gifts/entertainment policies.
• Support claims and risk review, including insurance tender letters and coverage issue-spotting with the broker.
• Support the firm’s data privacy and cybersecurity incident response playbook.
What You'll Bring
• Paralegal certificate, associate’s, or bachelor’s degree, or equivalent relevant experience
• Demonstrated trademark experience: comfort with ESTTA, TTAB dockets, Office Actions, Oppositions, and Madrid Protocol filings, and general fluency with the USPTO’s filing systems
• 5-7 years Paralegal experience in transactional, corporate, or business law
• Working knowledge of contract review, employment documentation, and general corporate support work
• Proficiency with e-filing and matter-management systems
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple active matters and deadlines at once
• Clear, direct, factual communication
• Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information
• Ability to work independently and as part of a small, collaborative team
Preferred Qualifications
• Familiarity with Florida entity and Secretary of State filing systems
• Experience with Litify, Salesforce, or comparable matter-management platforms
• Experience supporting HR investigations or workplace complaint intake
• Copyright or domain-dispute (UDRP) experience alongside trademark work
