Job Summary
The Patient Accounts Supervisor helps keep our mission sustainable by leading the team responsible for ensuring our services translate into the revenue needed to fund more care. You’ll oversee the day-to-day operations of the billing and coding teams, making sure claims are accurate, timely, and compliant with FQHC standards.
You’ll also serve as the go-to problem solver for complex billing issues and a supportive leader who motivates your team while collaborating across departments to improve processes that directly impact patient access and organizational stability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise daily patient account billing operations, including charge review, claim submission, payment posting, and accounts receivable management.
- Provide hands-on leadership to a team of remote billers and specialists — coaching, mentoring, and creating a culture of accountability and teamwork.
- Monitor key metrics such as days in A/R, denial rates, and encounter closure timelines.
- Collaborate with front office, clinical, and administrative staff to ensure accurate documentation and coding for FQHC services.
- Assist with payer audits, credentialing updates, and compliance with Medicare, Medicaid (AHCCCS), and commercial insurance requirements.
- Identify trends, streamline workflows, and make data-driven recommendations to strengthen cash flow and operational efficiency.
- Partner with the Director of Patient Accounts to develop and refine workflows, training, and reporting dashboards.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum 1-year supervisory experience in the healthcare industry.

Experience:
- 3–5 years in medical billing, revenue cycle, or healthcare finance.
- Experience in FQHC billing is preferred but not required.
- Minimum 1 year of supervisory or lead experience with a proven ability to motivate and develop others.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of FQHC billing, sliding fee scales, and payer requirements for Medicaid/Medicare populations.
- Analytical, organized, and proactive communicator who’s not afraid to dig in and problem-solve.
- Familiarity with Athena (or similar EHR), CPT/HCPCS, ICD-10, and data reporting.
- Mission-driven, collaborative, and passionate about making healthcare accessible and sustainable.
