Full Job Description
We are partnering with a well-established Australian organisation seeking an experienced Payroll Accountant to join their finance team. This is a broad and hands-on opportunity that combines payroll, accounting, reporting, and compliance responsibilities within a complex operational environment.
This permanent position offers a hybrid working arrangement and would suit a payroll professional who enjoys working across both payroll and finance while taking ownership of key reporting and compliance processes.
The Opportunity
Reporting into the Finance team, this role is responsible for the end-to-end management of payroll operations across Australia and New Zealand, while also supporting month-end accounting, reporting, reconciliations, and compliance activities.
The position offers significant variety and autonomy, making it ideal for someone who enjoys working across multiple disciplines rather than focusing solely on payroll processing.
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-end payroll processing across Australia and New Zealand
- Managing fortnightly and weekly payroll cycles
- Interpreting and applying Enterprise Agreements, employment contracts, and payroll legislation
- Payroll system administration and employee maintenance
- Processing superannuation, payroll tax, and other statutory obligations
- Preparation of payroll journals and month-end reporting
- Balance sheet reconciliations and payroll-related general ledger management
- Payroll accruals, provisions, and financial reporting activities
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and workforce cost analysis
- Preparation of FBT calculations and annual compliance reporting
- Regulatory reporting and statutory submissions
- Supporting internal and external audit requirements
- Assisting with payroll system enhancements, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives
About You
- Previous experience in a Payroll Accountant, Payroll Specialist, or similar payroll-focused finance role
- Strong end-to-end payroll experience within a complex environment
- Experience interpreting Enterprise Agreements, Awards, and payroll legislation
- Broad accounting knowledge including reconciliations, month-end reporting, and financial analysis
- Experience preparing balance sheet reconciliations and payroll-related reporting
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work autonomously
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience with payroll systems and financial reporting tools
- Exposure to Australian and New Zealand payrolls will be highly regarded
What's on Offer

- Permanent position
- Hybrid working arrangement
- Broad role combining payroll, accounting, reporting, and analysis
- High level of autonomy and ownership
- Opportunity to work within a complex payroll and finance environment
