We are looking for a detail-oriented and service-focused Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join our growing team. You will be responsible for accurate and timely administration of payroll and employee benefits, serving as a key point of expertise for payroll and employee data. You will manage day-to-day payroll transactions, validate information entered into the payroll system by the People & Culture team, pull relevant reporting, and ensure payroll & benefits processes are completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable provincial legislation and company policy.

The People & Culture team is committed to providing a high level of care and service to our employees. In this role, you will be a trusted point of contact for payroll and benefit related questions and support, responding to phone calls and emails with kindness, professionalism, and accurate information. You will help ensure payroll processes are timely and accurate, and contribute to HRIS enhancements and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen the employee experience.

What You’ll Be Doing

Payroll Administration & Compliance

  • Execute full-cycle payroll administration for employees across multiple provinces and divisions, ensuring accurate and timely processing in accordance with Canadian payroll legislation and company policies reporting to the Payroll and Benefits Lead.
  • Process, review, and validate payroll transactions including new hires, terminations, promotions, compensation changes, leaves, and other employee changes.
  • Review employee time and attendance information, identify discrepancies or unusual entries, and work with leaders to resolve issues to ensure accurate payroll processing.
  • Respond to internal payroll inquiries, providing clear and accurate information in a timely and professional manner to employees.

Benefits Administration

  • Administer employee benefits programs including enrollments, changes, leaves, terminations, and employee eligibility.
  • Respond to employee questions regarding benefits, deductions, eligibility, and coverage, providing clear and accurate information in a timely and professional manner.

HRIS & Payroll Systems

  • Validate and maintain accurate employee and payroll data through regular internal audits, reconciliations, and quality checks.
  • Utilize Dayforce, Excel, QGenda, and other integrated systems to support payroll processing, reporting, and employee data management.

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive responsible experience in Canadian payroll administration, preferably including experience with complex operations and/or multi-provincial payroll.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, taxation, deductions, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with payroll or HRIS systems; Ceridian Dayforce experience is a strong asset.
  • Experience with employee benefits administration including enrollments, changes, terminations, deductions, reconciliations, and employee inquiries, is considered an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to getting payroll and benefits right the first time.
  • A strong customer-service mindset with the ability to respond to employee questions with kindness, patience, professionalism, discretion, and empathy, particularly when dealing with delicate or time-sensitive payroll and benefits concerns.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain payroll and benefits information in a clear and easy-to-understand manner.
  • A collaborative approach and commitment to work alongside colleagues, with People & Culture, other operational leaders, employees, and external benefit & payroll partners.
  • PCP, CPM, or PLP designation is considered an asset but is not required. Demonstrated payroll knowledge and experience may be considered in lieu of a formal designation.
