Our Why Datacom works with organisations and communities across Australia and New Zealand to make a difference in people’s lives and help organisations use the power of tech to innovate and grow. About the Role (your why) We’re looking for two Payroll Compliance Consultants to join our Payroll Product team based out of Sydney, Australia. In this role, you’ll be a trusted advisor working closely with our product, development, and customer success teams to ensure our Payroll product stays compliant with evolving legislation and regulations. You will apply your specialist payroll knowledge to interpret complex payroll legislation, lead impact assessments, translate regulatory requirements into actionable product specifications, and help maintain Datacom’s reputation as a trusted, compliant payroll solution across the regions we operate in. Our offices are based in Sydney, Australia We like to bring people together in person when we can, but we are mindful of the benefits of working from home for work/life balance. We therefore leave it to you and the team you join to figure out what works best! What you’ll do At the moment, as a Payroll Compliance Consultant you will be focused on: Monitoring, researching, and analysing payroll legislation, tax law, superannuation regulations, and industrial instruments. Leading end-to-end legislative impact assessments and developing mitigation plans. Providing clear, actionable compliance guidance to internal and external stakeholders. Triaging compliance requests, prioritising them against product roadmap requirements, and lodging business cases for resourcing. Collaborating with Product Managers and Analysts to translate legislative requirements into functional specifications. Reviewing UX designs and workflows to ensure they meet legislative requirements. Participating in sprint reviews and product demonstrations to validate compliance outcomes. Developing and maintaining compliance documentation, including release notes and compliance matrices. Acting as a subject matter expert on payroll compliance and contributing to industry consultations and regulatory submissions. We are a pretty agile company, and are keen to respond to customer, technology and internal stakeholders’ changing requirements and this can mean we evolve in our roles to meet those needs. What you’ll bring Required experience: • 4–6+ years of payroll compliance or operations experience, ideally within a software vendor, fintech, or technology company. • Proven ability to interpret and implement complex payroll legislation in New Zealand and/or Australia. • Experience collaborating with product or technology teams to translate legislative requirements into system functionality. • Background working with Agile development teams and methodologies. • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across technical and non-technical audiences. Nice to have: • Experience supporting payroll compliance across both Australia and New Zealand. • Recognised payroll certification from an approved body (e.g., TAPS or NZPPA). • BAS Agent registration (required for Australia-based candidates undertaking BAS-related work). • Familiarity with tools such as GitHub, ADO, Confluence or similar platforms. • Experience contributing to regulator working groups or industry submissions. Why join us here at Datacom? Datacom is one of Australia and New Zealand’s largest suppliers of Information Technology professional services. We have managed to maintain a dynamic, agile, small business feel that is often diluted in larger organisations of our size. It's our people that give Datacom its unique culture and energy that you can feel from the moment you meet with us. We care about our people and provide a range of perks such as social events, chill-out spaces, remote working, flexi-hours and professional development courses to name a few. You’ll have the opportunity to learn, develop your career, connect and bring your true self to work. You will be recognised and valued for your contributions and be able to do your work in a collegial, flat-structured environment. We operate at the forefront of technology to help Australia and New Zealand’s largest enterprise organisations explore possibilities and solve their greatest challenges, so you will never run out of interesting new challenges and opportunities. We want Datacom to be an inclusive and welcoming workplace for everyone and take pride in the steps we have taken and continue to take to make our environment fun and friendly, and our people feel supported.
