Position Summary

The Supervisor of Coding is responsible for overseeing the daily operational activities performed by coders (employed or vendor) to ensure accordance with MHS policies and standards and federal, state and local regulations. The Supervisor works closely with the vendor coding team to ensure complete, accurate, and timely coding & billing, management or work queues to include denials, and claim edits; oversees coding staff/coding vendor to complete accurate and timely coding/billing of charges, management of denials, and claim edits; ensures maintenance and completion of compliance audits for the coding staff/coding vendor and provides coverage for the Directors of Coding, as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing leadership and operational oversight for employed and vendor-supported resources while supporting PB-CDI activities across Professional Billing workflows. This includes workload coordination, performance monitoring, quality feedback, issue escalation, and consistent execution of PB coding and PB-CDI priorities.
  • Monitoring documentation integrity trends identified through provider coding audits, denials, claim edits, and work queue activity; facilitating provider education and feedback related to diagnosis specificity, medical necessity, and documentation completeness; collaborating with PB-CDI and operational stakeholders to address recurring documentation concerns; supporting query-related and provider follow-up workflows; and assisting with reporting, trend analysis, and action planning to promote coding accuracy, documentation quality, reimbursement integrity, reliable reporting, and compliance.

Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree or two (2) years of experience in lieu of degree may be considered
  • RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, or CCS-P credential required
  • Minimum three (3) years of coding experience in a team environment within a highly computerized hospital setting
  • Previous experience and demonstrated skill in a leadership or supervisory role

Pay and Benefit Expectations

We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $69,721.60 - $100,318.40 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant’s years of experience align.
