PDL Design Engineer

Salary Range: $35.00 To $65.00 Hourly Aerothreads is seeking a Program Design Lead Engineer to guide engineering design work from customer requirements through design review and manufacturing readiness. This position works closely with CAD Designers and teams across manufacturing, quality, operations, and programs to deliver technically sound, manufacturable solutions. We are open to engineers at different stages of their careers. The selected candidate’s responsibilities and final level will reflect their experience and demonstrated technical capability. Responsibilities Coordinate engineering design activities, requirements, schedules, and technical deliverables. Work with customers and internal teams to clarify requirements and resolve design issues. Review mechanical drawings and technical documentation for alignment with design intent. Prepare and present materials for Preliminary Design Reviews, Critical Design Reviews, and Manufacturing Readiness Reviews. Maintain requirements, change records, and project documentation in accordance with configuration management processes. Support the preparation and review of End Item Data Packages. Partner with manufacturing and quality teams to address manufacturability and compliance concerns. Contribute to verification and validation activities. Experienced candidates may lead verification strategy, manage the Requirements Verification Matrix, and approve technical results. Communicate progress, risks, and technical decisions to customers and internal stakeholders. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Materials Engineering. Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and communicate technical information clearly. Strong organization, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills. Relevant engineering project experience, which may include internships or co-ops for early-career candidates. Experience in aerospace or manufacturing, technical project leadership, requirements verification, and configuration management is preferred. This position may involve access to export-controlled technical data; access eligibility will be assessed under applicable requirements. Work Location & Travel This position may be performed on-site at Aerothreads' office or in a hybrid/remote capacity, based on business needs and management approval. Employees working in a hybrid or remote arrangement are expected to travel to the Aerothreads office at least once per calendar quarter for team collaboration, meetings, training, or other business activities. Employees working remotely are expected to maintain a workspace that supports confidential government contract work and complies with company security requirements. Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, communicate verbally and in writing, and use a computer and standard office equipment for extended periods.
