People Operations Lead

Board Intelligence

Is this job info correct?

Board Intelligence is a technology and advisory firm on a mission to make boards more effective, and through them, build better businesses and benefit society. Over twenty years we have established ourselves as the market leader in governance and board effectiveness, trusted by more than 80,000 directors, executives, and governance professionals globally, including across the Fortune 500, FTSE 100, and OMX 30. That trust has been earned through depth of insight, rigorous advisory work, and a track record that newer entrants simply cannot replicate. We have invested in applied AI since 2020, well ahead of the market, and that early conviction has paid off. Our AI-powered platform and smart board advisor give us a competitive advantage that is widening, not narrowing. In 2024, K1 Investment Management, the leading B2B Enterprise SaaS investor, backed us to accelerate that position further. We are now growing fast, with a proven commercial model spanning both mid-market and enterprise, and a product suite that has become a necessary addition in high-stakes board environments. The people joining us now will shape how we scale. We are deliberate about how we do that. Our founders and leadership team are deeply invested in keeping the culture that got us here: thoughtful, high calibre, and genuinely human. Ambition and balance are not in competition at Board Intelligence. If you want to work at the intersection of AI and governance, on problems that matter at the highest level, this is a strong place to be. Our Mission We unleash the potential of organisations through the science of board effectiveness, building better businesses and benefitting society. The Role Board Intelligence’s People & Culture function is moving from a single generalist role carrying everything to a set of focused specialisms. The People Advisor owns the operational core of that function: policy application, employee relations casework, compensation benchmarking and engagement. The role exists to give managers and employees fast, reliable, day-to-day support on employment matters — from onboarding through to sensitive employee relations casework — without every query needing to travel up the chain. You will work closely with the People & AI Enablement Partner to keep delivery consistent as the AI enablement agenda reshapes how the function operates. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants genuine ownership of cases from open to close, who reads employment law carefully, and who would rather build a manager’s confidence than quietly take the problem off their hands. Main Responsibilities Manage employee relations, risk and compliance cases (probation, performance, grievance, disciplinary) end to end across the UK, with support to Sweden and Denmark, applying the right jurisdictional employment law and without escalating standard cases. Work with our ER lawyer in Sweden where Nordic matters require specialist input. Interpret people policies (probation, leave, flexible working) with judgement, escalating genuine ambiguity rather than defaulting every query upward. Keep policy documentation current and written in language managers can act on without needing it interpreted first. Own office safety compliance. Own compensation benchmarking, ensuring pay decisions are grounded in current market data rather than precedent. Coordinate payroll inputs, ensuring changes are accurate, on time and traceable. Share ownership of Career Pathways with the PX Advisor, ensuring career development conversations are consistent regardless of who is leading them. Own day-to-day employee engagement activity, turning survey themes into visible, practical action for managers and teams. Partner directly with line managers to build their confidence handling day-to-day people issues, reducing dependency on P&C for routine matters. Act as a visible culture champion across the London office. Person Specification This role suits an HR generalist who has already carried real casework on their own and wants the breadth of a specialist remit without losing the hands-on work. You are comfortable operating without a large support structure, confident making the calls that are yours to make, and clear about when a matter genuinely needs escalating. You take the same care over benchmarking data and case documentation as you do over the conversations themselves, and your instinct with a manager is to build their capability rather than absorb their problem. Required Skills and Experience 2 plus years’ generalist HR experience in a fast-moving SaaS or tech business, comfortable operating without a large support structure. Working knowledge of UK employment law, with the judgement to know what to check when you are not sure. Demonstrated ownership of ER casework end to end, not just involvement — running a case from open to close. Comfortable working with compensation and benchmarking data, not only relationships. Clear, precise written communication: policies and case notes that stand on their own without needing interpretation. Comfortable being a visible culture champion Nice to haves Exposure to Swedish or Danish employment law, given our Stockholm and Copenhagen footprint. Experience supporting employees across multiple jurisdictions or legal entities. CIPD qualification, or working towards one. Experience running or improving an engagement survey cycle end to end. Comfort using AI tooling to reduce administrative work in a people function. What good looks like in this role Standard ER cases are opened, run and closed by you, with escalation reserved for genuine complexity rather than volume. Managers come to you first and, over time, handle more routine matters themselves. Pay decisions can be traced to current market data rather than precedent. Career development conversations feel consistent whoever is leading them. Engagement survey themes turn into action people can point to. Policy questions get answered once, clearly, and the answer holds. Our Values Our values aren’t just words on a wall. They capture our culture, and the behaviours we see and strive for every day. Kindness & caring — We celebrate brilliance that comes without big egos or sharp elbows, and we win while raising each other up. Curiosity & innovation — Entrepreneurship is in our blood. We’re inquisitive, challenge convention, think big, and move fast. Remarkable quality & service — We take joy from delighting our clients and pride ourselves on ensuring every interaction is exceptional. Benefits We pride ourselves on our great working environment and package. Here's some of what's on offer: Pension scheme Personal performance bonus 26 days holiday each calendar year Bupa health & dental cover Group life assurance EAP Cycle to work scheme Diversity, equity and inclusion Board Intelligence is committed to building a team that reflects the breadth of experience, background and perspective needed to do this work well. We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds and do not discriminate on the basis of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation or any other protected characteristic. If you need any reasonable adjustments at any stage of the process, please let us know and we will accommodate them.
