As a Principal Data Scientist at Grindr, you will be working closely with product managers, product designers, and engineers to devise insightful metrics that guide development, design and execute novel experiments, present a data-driven viewpoint to guide key decisions, and find new avenues to drive growth through deep dive analysis. You will have the opportunity to work on models that are deployed to production and improve quality of life for our millions of users. You will also be an informal ambassador for the Data Science team to the rest of the organization, educating a diverse group on the many subtle aspects of utilizing data well. You will be a member of the data organization at Grindr, which integrates data scientists, data engineers, and ML/AI engineers into a single cohesive and collaborative team. This is a hybrid role based in our Palo Alto office and will require you to be in person Tuesdays and Thursdays.

About the Job:

• Develop and implement a set of techniques and applications to transform Grindr’s raw data into meaningful information using data-oriented programming languages and visualization software.

• Design and evaluate experiments to measure the impact of Grindr’s product changes by analyzing data across the product to uncover root causes of metric movements.

• Test, validate, and reformulate models to ensure accurate prediction of outcomes and interests.

• Recommend data-driven solutions to key stakeholders. Communicate results to cross-functional stakeholders to inform them of product decisions, and develop tools to scale and automate analyses, and improve productivity across the company.

• Deliver oral and written presentations of the results of mathematical modeling and data analysis to management or other end users.

• Provide mentorship and guidance to team members and identify and recommend best practices to test, validate, and reformulate models and ensure accurate prediction of outcomes of interests.

• Analyze, manipulate, or process large sets of data using statistical software.

• Devise ML solutions to improve recommendations, detect spam, and better serve Grindr’s uses.

• Clean and manipulate raw data using statistical software and compare models using statistical performance metrics, such as loss functions or proportion of explained variance.

Role Requirements:

• Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Operations Research and Information Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, plus two (2) years of post-baccalaureate experience as a Data Scientist or in a related position.

• Experience must include analyzing, manipulating, and processing large sets of data using statistical software and programming languages Python and SQL.

• Developing scalable automated data analysis workflows using Pandas; testing, validating, and reformulating machine learning models using TensorFlow and PyTorch; conducting and interpreting A/B testing using Statsig.

• Presenting mathematical modeling and data analysis results using Tableau; and working with the data platform Snowflake.
