We're seeking a Permit Coordinator to secure electrical permits across multiple states, counties, and municipalities so our projects start on time and stay compliant. You'll be the link between our project teams and the Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs). You'll learn each jurisdiction's rules, prepare accurate submittals, follow applications through review, and keep our licensing and documentation current.
Permit Acquisition
- Prepare and submit electrical permit applications, plan sets, and supporting documents to city, county, and state agencies
- Determine permit requirements, fees, review timelines, and submittal formats for each jurisdiction
- Submit through online portals as well as in person, by mail, or by email where required
- Track applications through review, respond to plan reviewer comments, and coordinate revisions and resubmittals with engineering and project teams
- Pay permit fees, reconcile costs to project budgets, and process refunds or fee adjustments
Multi-Jurisdiction Compliance
- Maintain a current reference library of jurisdictional requirements, including adopted NEC edition and local amendments, submittal checklists, and inspection procedures
- Track state and local contractor licensing, registration, bonding, and insurance requirements, and handle applications, renewals, and reciprocity filings
- Coordinate licensed master electrician or qualifier sign-offs and signatures required on applications
- Monitor permit expiration dates, extensions, and inspection deadlines to prevent lapses
Project & Inspection Support
- Work with project managers and estimators early to identify permit needs, lead times, and risks to the schedule
- Schedule inspections and coordinate with field crews and foremen
- Help resolve failed inspections, correction notices, and stop-work issues with the AHJ
- Support utility coordination, such as service requests, interconnection applications, and inspection releases, where applicable
- Close out permits and collect final approvals, certificates of occupancy, and as-built documentation
Administration & Records
- Maintain a centralized permit log or tracking system with status, dates, fees, and contacts for every project
- Keep organized digital records of applications, approvals, correspondence, and inspection results
- Build and maintain relationships with building department staff, plan reviewers, and inspectors
- Suggest process improvements, templates, and checklists to speed up permitting across markets
