Job Title: Clinical Pharmacist Job Description The Clinical Pharmacist provides oversight and ensures the safety of all daily operations for an assigned patient care team. This role manages assigned pharmacy staff, delivers high-quality clinical support to patients, and ensures that all prescriptions are dispensed in accordance with applicable state, federal, and board of pharmacy laws. The Clinical Pharmacist builds strong relationships with patients and clinicians, delivers exceptional customer service, and supports evidence-based pharmacotherapy to optimize patient outcomes. Responsibilities Provide oversight and ensure the safety of all daily pharmacy operations for the assigned patient care team. Manage assigned pharmacy staff to support efficient, accurate, and compliant dispensing processes. Serve as the primary intake contact for all new team referrals initiated by telephone, ensuring timely and accurate triage. Deliver exceptional customer service in alignment with internal standards for high-quality patient and clinician support. Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with patients and clinicians to support continuity of care. Conduct comprehensive clinical reviews of pharmacotherapy for each patient, including drug utilization, adherence and compliance assessment, drug interaction screening, side effect profiling, and drug administration support. Ensure that each patient’s treatment plan aligns with evidence-based clinical guidelines and best practices. Counsel patients on their medications, including proper use, potential side effects, interactions, and adherence strategies. Document clinical interventions, patient interactions, and dispensing activities in accordance with regulatory and organizational requirements. Ensure that all prescriptions are dispensed in accordance with state, federal, and board of pharmacy laws and regulations. Collaborate with clinicians and other healthcare professionals to optimize pharmacotherapy and address medication-related issues. Handle a high volume of patient and clinician calls, providing accurate information, support, and problem resolution. Use computer systems and technology effectively to manage patient records, process prescriptions, and support clinical decision-making. Participate in training and ongoing professional development to maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge and regulatory awareness. Essential Skills PharmD degree and licensure as a pharmacist, with eligibility to practice in the relevant jurisdiction. 2–3 years of experience in counseling and direct patient care, preferably in a clinical or specialty pharmacy setting. Demonstrated experience conducting comprehensive clinical reviews of pharmacotherapy, including drug utilization, compliance assessment, drug interaction screening, and side effect profiling. Strong patient counseling skills with the ability to explain complex medication information in a clear and compassionate manner. Proficiency in customer service within a healthcare or pharmacy environment, with a commitment to delivering high-quality support. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment. Computer proficiency and comfort working with pharmacy software, electronic health records, and other clinical technology tools. Thorough knowledge of state, federal, and board of pharmacy laws and regulations governing prescription dispensing and clinical practice. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with patients, clinicians, and colleagues. Strong clinical judgment and ability to align treatment plans with evidence-based guidelines. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience managing or overseeing pharmacy staff in a clinical or patient care environment. Experience in telephone-based patient support, including handling call volumes of up to approximately 30 calls per day. Ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships with patients and clinicians. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in clinical documentation and dispensing processes. Comfort working in a hybrid model that combines on-site and remote responsibilities. Willingness and ability to complete an intensive on-site training period and adapt to organizational policies and workflows. Work Environment This role follows a standard schedule of approximately 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The position operates in a hybrid work model, with two days per week in the office and three days working from home once fully transitioned. The Clinical Pharmacist will be on site full-time for the first six months, including an initial 3–4 week training period that takes place entirely on site. Candidates should live within approximately one hour of the worksite to support the on-site requirements. The environment includes frequent telephone-based patient and clinician interactions, with call volumes that can reach up to 30 calls per day. The role requires regular use of computers, pharmacy software, and other clinical systems, so comfort with technology is important. The work setting emphasizes collaboration, professional communication, and a strong focus on patient care and service quality. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Cary, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $60.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
