The Opportunity Ulteig, and its affiliated companies, are hiring for a Plant SCADA Engineer working in the Automation, Integration, and System Protection (AISP) Department. The Plant SCADA Engineer is responsible for designing, programming, installing, and testing automation systems that bring together multiple sub-systems to meet the operational and regulatory needs of the owner. The Plant SCADA Engineer will be able to develop and implement logic for complex custom applications. The Plant SCADA Engineer will oversee less experienced staff and report to an Engineering Supervisor in the department. **Please note that resumes must be submitted in English for the application to be considered** What You’ll Do Review and create, maintain, and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and other project documentation, providing learning opportunities for junior team members. Create SCADA point lists, remote terminal unit (RTU) programs, human-machine interfaces. (HMI’s), meter programs, metering overviews, and calculations under the supervision of a lead engineer. Program, install, troubleshoot, test, and commission Remote Terminal Units (RTU’s), RTACs (Real-Time Automation Controllers), Programmable Automation Controllers (PAC’s) & Human Machine Interfaces (HMI’s) for renewable and power utility clients. Develop complete design packages for site network and communication architectures compliant with client and regulatory requirements. Establish and maintain schedules and provide timely progress reports and project status updates. Takes ownership of quality and coaches/mentors others. Maintains positive client relationships, responsive both internally and externally, very frequent client interaction. Lead FAT, SAT testing, and mentor junior team members to troubleshoot electrical control systems to ensure proper functionality and performance. Understands actual time required for most tasks and helps develop the project schedule. Typically perform work with the following technologies and platforms: o Communication Processors: SEL-RTAC, Modicon M580. o HMI: WonderWare, Ignition, other web-based GUI’s (Inkscape, SEL Diagram Builder). o Network: SEL, Ruggedcom, & Cisco Firewalls and ethernet switches. o Troubleshooting: Putty, Wireshark. Additional duties may include tasks beyond what is listed, such as special projects, assisting colleagues, or new initiatives. A willingness to adapt to changing priorities and support team efforts enhances collaboration and growth opportunities. What We Expect from You Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Electronic, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a closely related discipline; equivalent professional experience may be considered in place of a degree. Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience is required. Demonstrates proficiency and working knowledge of communication. protocols (DNP3, Modbus, etc.) and internet network architectures. Network design experience and implementation, networking/IT certifications like Cisco Certified Network Associate a plus. Applies current, standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to complete engineering tasks. Strong understanding of 3-phase power generation control principles. Knowledge of implementing Automatic Voltage Regulation Schemes including setpoint, power factor, and voltage control. Ability to read, interpret, and implement Power Purchase Agreements and LGIAs and translate into control schemes. Knowledge and understanding of voltage regulation concepts and ISO specific requirements. Develop plans, specifications, and observation reports to see that these items are complete, accurate, and in accordance with sound engineering practice. Core/Gold Certification in Inductive Automation's Ignition platform is nice to have. Strong experience with SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems and related technologies is preferred. Efficiently practices engineering as it pertains to design selection. Works closely with engineering technicians and experienced SCADA engineers. Performs detailed engineering design and evaluations within specialty. Takes ownership of quality. Responsible for completing tasks and projects in the allotted time. Prepares reports and correspondence concerning the direction of assigned projects. Demonstrates a wide degree of creativity and latitude. Effectively communicates and interacts with clients to ensure we meet their needs. Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects. Must have authorization to work permanently in Costa Rica. Willing to travel 15-20% of the time. Willing to work night shift and weekends based on project schedule (less than 10% of the time). Willing to work on call as required. Must possess a valid Costa Rica Driver’s License. Must have the ability to travel across the United States and Canada. Ability to work in a hybrid mode schedule; 3 days in the office, 2 days from home. Must possess strong verbal and written English communication skills (CEFR level B2–C1). You should be comfortable articulating complex ideas and collaborating effectively within a global professional environment. Must have authorization to work legally in Costa Rica for any employer.
