Platform Engineer | C#/.NET, AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes | 20+ Year Profitable Trading Tech Firm
- Salary: competitive base plus bonus
- Location: Hertfordshire, hybrid (3 days in the office for the first 6 months, then 2)
I'm working with a long-established, consistently profitable online trading business that wants a software engineer for its three-person platform team. If you've written production code for a living and built AWS infrastructure on top of that, this role uses both. You'll run the platform behind 400+ C# microservices.
The platform team are developers first. They write their own C# services, and most day-to-day coding is Python and TypeScript, so a commercial software engineering background matters more here than years of pipeline scripting.
The office is in Hertfordshire, an easy train from central London and close to the M1, A1(M) and M25. Office days are Tuesday and Wednesday, plus Thursday for your first six months, so make sure the commute works for you.
What They're Looking For (Non-Negotiables)
- Software engineering: commercial experience as a developer, ideally C#/.NET. If not then Python and Node.js
- AWS: building and running infrastructure, beyond deploying to it
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): ideally Terraform
- AI tools: hands-on use, and keen to push them further
- Communication: you'll support around 30 engineers day to day
What You'll Work With
- Kubernetes, Linux and Docker
- Kafka
- Redis/Valkey
- HAProxy and Consul
- Grafana and OpenSearch
- Azure DevOps Pipelines and Argo CD
- Node.js and TypeScript
Why Join / Projects
- You'll keep writing code, including C# services that handle branch processing and release handoffs for the dev teams.
- Your development background shapes the work. You'll know the friction developers hit because you've hit it yourself, and you'll build the fixes.
- The platform team has more autonomy than any other IT team there. You'll set requirements, decide how to meet them and choose what to tackle next.
- Work splits roughly 50/50 between support and projects, from app work to the yearly Kubernetes upgrade, and the team moves on quickly when something more useful comes up.
- AI is part of the job. They want people who spot where it helps and bring it into how the team works, and you'll use Claude Code in the final interview.
Employee Benefits
- Bonus based on company, department and individual performance
- Hybrid working: 3 days in the office for the first 6 months, then 2
- 2 weeks fully remote per year
- 25 days holiday, rising to 30 after 2 years
- Contributory pension
- Private medical insurance
