Company Description NavTechs is an independent educational project dedicated to helping marine engineer officers develop practical, ship-ready technical judgment. Guided by the perspective of a serving Chief Engineer in the merchant marine, the platform focuses on the real questions cadets, Third Engineers, and Second Engineers encounter at sea. Through articles, calculators, and narrated system diagrams, NavTechs explains how machinery works, why parameters matter, and how failures connect, always emphasizing safety and adherence to approved documentation. Resources are designed to complement shipboard manuals, maker’s instructions, and Safety Management Systems—not replace them—so learners can build understanding at any rank. The mission is to share practical knowledge with purpose, empowering engineers to read systems, follow evidence, and respect limits and safeguards.

Role Description The PMS Engineer is a full-time, remote role responsible for supporting the design of the website ePMS — Planned Maintenance System | NavTechs The PMS Engineer is responsible for validation, and continuous improvement of planned maintenance concepts and content for marine machinery and systems. This role involves reviewing technical documentation, maker’s manuals, and class and flag requirements to help translate them into clear, structured maintenance guidance and learning materials. The PMS Engineer will collaborate with the NavTechs team to ensure that articles, diagrams, and tools reflect realistic maintenance workflows, risk controls, and inspection practices used on modern vessels. Day-to-day tasks include research on engine-room systems, developing maintenance sequences and checklists, verifying assumptions behind calculators and estimates, and providing practical feedback on fault-finding and watchkeeping scenarios. The role also includes contributing to quality assurance for technical content and supporting continuous updates based on new technologies, regulations, and shipboard practices.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong project coordination abilities, including Project Management and Expediting experience in a technical or maritime context.
  • Candidates should possess skills in Expeditor functions and Logistics Management to align maintenance activities, materials, and information flow with realistic shipboard operations.
  • Candidates should possess Inspection skills and familiarity with technical audits, class requirements, or condition-based monitoring of machinery and systems.
  • Relevant experience as a marine engineer officer (cadet to Chief Engineer), technical superintendent, or PMS specialist in shipping or offshore industries is highly beneficial.
  • Solid understanding of engine-room systems, planned maintenance regimes, and Safety Management Systems, with a strong commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to interpret maker’s manuals, technical drawings, and maintenance procedures, and to explain them in clear, practical language.
  • Comfort working remotely, with strong self-organization, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines in a content-focused environment.
  • Proficiency with standard office and collaboration tools; experience with PMS software or CMMS platforms is an advantage.
