Job Description:
PN Climate & Impact Program Lead
Segment: Mars Petcare (Pet Nutrition Europe)
Reporting Line: European Sustainability Lead
Location: Paddington or Slough, UK (hybrid)
Salary: £,76,100 - £91,000 (depending on the experience), annual bonus, benefits, annual car allowance
Role Purpose
As the PMO Lead for Climate & Impact, you will be the strategic and operational leader of Mars Pet Nutrition Europe’s climate transition. Your mission is to ensure we meet our science-based carbon targets while transforming sustainability into a core business competency and a driver of regional growth. You will embed climate accountability and value creation across all business functions—from financial planning and S&OP+ to brand storytelling and customer collaboration—to drive a unified and commercially savvy climate strategy.
What will be your key responsibilities?
- Climate Program Governance: Lead the Program Management Office (PMO) for Europe’s climate action plan. Govern and track the portfolio of sustainability initiatives across Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, serving as the central hub for our regional climate agenda (primary focus decarbonisation, with water and biodiversity expected to follow).
- Performance & Financial Integration: Establish and manage robust tracking to monitor progress against carbon targets. Integrate carbon performance and risk into core business rhythms, including S&OP+ and long-term financial planning (AEP, IVCP).
- Business Case & ROI: Partner with functional teams to build compelling business cases for sustainability investments, considering ROI, marginal abatement costs and business resilience.
- Commercial & Brand Integration: Collaborate with Sales and Marketing to unlock value from our climate actions. Develop a program to upskill associates to support customer engagements with major European retailers and help translate complex sustainability data into credible, high-impact brand/portfolio stories that resonate with downstream partners.
- Stakeholder & Enterprise Alignment: Act as the primary liaison to Global and Central Mars Sustainability teams to align on priorities and scale best practices.
What are we looking for?
- Experience: Substantial experience leading a PMO or managing large-scale, cross-functional programs, preferably in an FMCG, manufacturing, or retail environment.
- Commercial Acumen: Proven experience working at the intersection of sustainability and commercial functions (e.g., Sales, Marketing, Category), with a track record of driving business-oriented sustainability goals.
- Climate Expertise: Strong technical understanding of carbon accounting (GHG Protocol, Scope 3), science-based targets (SBTi), and climate risk frameworks.
