Highlights:
Summary: The Polysomnographic Technologist shall be responsible to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, including in center and home sleep apnea testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education. This individual will perform a wide variety of polysomnographic studies in the Sleep Disorder Center to include, but are not limited to: Routine NPSG's, MSLT's, MWT's,parasomnia studies, seizure studies, RBD studies, HSAT's, PAP and oxygen titration, and advanced PAP therapy, ie. Auto SV,AVAPS, etc., and ensures collection of appropriate data for each. Additionally, the Technologist will analyze data, score polysomnograms (PSGs) and HSAT's, and compile data into reports for physician review. The position is crendentialed in sleep technology and is able to provide oversight of other sleep center staff if needed. This individual is considered the "expert" in the field of sleep medicine and can help provide education and training to other non-credentialed staff. This position may have additional duties assigned that are within scope of the role.
Education / Experience: High School graduate or equivalent required.
License / Certification: Active Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) or CRT-SDS or RRT-SDS required, BLS required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Extensive knowledge of polysomnography and electroencephalography (EEG)
• Extensive knowledge of polysomnographic equipment.
• Knowledge of HIPAA standards and regulations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
• The ability to communicate effectively with patients, guest, and hospital personnel.
• The ability to show compassion and sensitivity for patient comfort.
• The ability to maintain confidentiality and follow all HIPPA privacy policies.
• Collect, analyze and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs (physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history).
• Determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.
Work Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Position requires sitting for 80% of the workday and mobility 20% of the workday.
There is occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
There is frequent reaching, use of hands and repetitive action.
Requires occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 150 pounds.
There is a continuous need for speaking with clear diction and hearing sensitivity in conversation either by phone or in person.
Continuous visual acuity at close and distant range.
Inside protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Minimal noise levels.
Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock. Some exposure to infectious disease while performing job-related tasks. Some exposure to hazardous chemicals. Occasional exposure to radiation.
