Washington Technology Industry Association (WTIA) is a technology industry association representing hundreds of member companies ranging from startups to mid-market firms across the Pacific Northwest and beyond. To expand the retirement benefits available to our members, we are seeking a driven and knowledgeable PEP Sales Specialist to lead the sale and adoption of our Pooled Employer Plan (PEP) offering. This is a high-impact, relationship-driven role at the intersection of retirement plan expertise and association channel sales. You will be the primary point of contact for member companies evaluating our PEP, guiding them from initial awareness through enrollment. The right candidate understands ERISA, speaks the language of small and mid-market CFOs and HR leaders, and knows how to sell a fiduciary solution — not just a product.
About This Opportunity
Pooled Employer Plans are one of the fastest-growing segments of the US retirement market, with assets growing from $12B in 2023 to over $21B in 2024. Tech associations represent an ideal distribution channel — member companies share similar workforce demographics, face common fiduciary challenges, and benefit from pooled buying power. This role positions the right candidate at the leading edge of a structural shift in how small and mid-market employers access institutional-quality retirement benefits.
Position Description
Location: Remote-first, with frequent events/meetings in the Seattle metro area. Candidates must reside in Washington State and be eligible to maintain all securities and/or investment adviser registrations required to market and sell a Pooled Employer Plan (PEP).
FLSA Classification: Exempt
General Classification: Salary, Full Time, Regular, Remote
Salary Range: Expected OTE range is $135,000–$270,000, depending on relevant experience (compensation is a mix of base + commission).
Benefits: WTIA offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plan with company match, a flexible paid time off policy, plus company holidays.
Key Responsibilities
Member Outreach & Pipeline Development
- Proactively engage association member companies to introduce and educate them on the PEP offering
- Build and manage a sales pipeline from initial outreach through signed participation agreements
- Represent the PEP at association events, webinars, chapter meetings, and industry conferences
- Partner with the association & membership and communications teams to develop targeted campaigns
Consultative Sales & Education
- Conduct discovery conversations with member HR leaders, CFOs, and owners to assess fit and readiness
- Deliver compelling presentations and demos that clearly articulate the fiduciary, cost, and administrative advantages of the PEP
- Address objections around plan customization, fee structures, and transition logistics with confidence
- Compare PEP benefits versus standalone 401(k) plans and state-mandated programs for prospects
- Present retirement plan information in accordance with applicable securities, ERISA, and regulatory requirements.
Enrollment & Onboarding Coordination
- Guide employers through the enrollment process, coordinating with the Pooled Plan Provider (PPP), recordkeeper, and Third Party Administrator
- Ensure accurate data collection from adopting employers (employee census, payroll integration, plan design elections)
- Serve as the primary liaison between member companies and PEP service providers during onboarding
Relationship Management
- Maintain ongoing relationships with enrolled employers to drive retention, referrals, and upsell opportunities
- Proactively communicate plan updates, regulatory changes (e.g., SECURE 2.0 provisions), and tax credit opportunities
- Track participant satisfaction and escalate service issues to the appropriate providers
Reporting & Strategy
- Maintain accurate CRM records of all prospect and member interactions
- Report pipeline metrics, conversion rates, and adoption milestones to association leadership
- Provide market feedback to inform PEP product positioning, pricing, and design improvements
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in retirement plan sales, distribution, or consulting (401(k), MEP, PEP, or similar defined contribution plans)
- Deep working knowledge of ERISA, fiduciary roles (3(16), 3(38), 3(21)), and plan compliance requirements
- Demonstrated ability to sell complex financial or benefits products to small and mid-market employers
- Experience working with or selling through trade associations, affinity groups, or industry channels is strongly preferred
- FINRA Series 65 or 66 license, or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire
- Familiarity with the SECURE Act and SECURE 2.0 provisions applicable to PEPs
- Proficiency with CRM platforms (Salesforce or equivalent) and virtual presentation tools
- Successfully complete all required licensing, background screening, fingerprinting, and continuing education requirements.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout Washington.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPFA (Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor), AIF (Accredited Investment Fiduciary), or ASPPA credential
- Prior experience with PEP or MEP structures as an advisor, wholesaler, or PPP representative
- Existing relationships within the technology industry employer community
- Familiarity with payroll integration workflows (ADP, Paychex, Gusto, Rippling) in plan onboarding
- Understanding of startup tax credits under SECURE 2.0 and how to position them in sales conversations
