About us

At National Grid, we keep people connected and society moving. But it’s so much more than that. National Grid provides the environment, support, and purpose that enable us to make real impact. As we drive momentum in the energy transition for all, we’re committed to ensuring none of our customers are left in the dark.

So, join us as a Portfolio Analyst and find your superpower.

National Grid is hiring a Portfolio Analyst to join our team in Warwick, with hybrid working. You'll play a key role in supporting portfolio governance, planning, and reporting activities, helping to ensure strategic initiatives remain aligned to business objectives and deliver maximum value across the organisation.

About The Role

We’re looking for a proactive and commercially aware Portfolio Analyst to join the Data Connect HUB within the Chief Data Office.

The Data Connect HUB supports a portfolio of data, digital, AI, and innovation initiatives that are helping to shape the future of National Grid. In this role, you'll play an important part in ensuring portfolio information is accurate, financial activity is controlled, initiatives are effectively mobilised, and key decisions are supported by clear and reliable data.

You'll combine business analysis, portfolio reporting, and financial tracking responsibilities, working with colleagues across the UK and US to turn complex information from projects, Finance, business teams, and delivery partners into meaningful insights and decision-ready reporting.

This is a hands-on role offering exposure to a wide range of strategic programmes and senior stakeholders across the organisation. If you enjoy bringing structure to complexity, solving problems, and working at the heart of business planning and governance, this is an excellent opportunity to make a real impact while developing your career in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

What You'll Do

As a Portfolio Analyst, you'll help bring structure, visibility, and control to a diverse portfolio of data, digital, and innovation initiatives. Working across teams in the UK and US, you'll ensure leaders have the insight and governance needed to make informed decisions and successfully deliver strategic outcomes.

  • Maintain accurate portfolio reporting, tracking delivery progress, milestones, finances, benefits, risks, and dependencies.
  • Produce clear, insightful reporting and analysis to support governance forums and portfolio reviews.
  • Support investment planning, forecasting, and financial management activities, working closely with Finance and project teams.
  • Track budgets, forecasts, benefits, and portfolio performance, identifying variances and helping to resolve issues quickly.
  • Facilitate discovery and scoping activities, turning business needs into structured requirements and clearly defined initiatives.
  • Support governance processes by capturing decisions, tracking actions, managing risks, and ensuring agreed outcomes are delivered.
  • Help measure and evidence the value delivered by initiatives, supporting benefits tracking and outcome reporting.
  • Build strong relationships across Finance, Product, Project Management, Data, and Technology teams, coordinating inputs from a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Prepare concise updates, briefings, and decision-ready materials for both operational and senior audiences.
  • Drive continuous improvement in portfolio governance, reporting processes, and ways of working.

This is an opportunity to work at the heart of a strategic portfolio, gaining exposure to senior stakeholders, complex programmes, and the decision-making processes that support National Grid's digital transformation journey.

About You

We're looking for an organised and analytical professional who enjoys bringing structure to complexity and turning data into meaningful insight. You'll be comfortable working across multiple stakeholders, managing competing priorities, and ensuring decisions are supported by accurate information and robust governance.

To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

  • Experience in a Portfolio Analyst, PMO Analyst, Business Analyst, Governance Analyst, or similar role.
  • Experience supporting technology, digital, data, or transformation portfolios.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience maintaining complex trackers, reconciling data from multiple sources, and producing accurate reporting.
  • Exposure to financial forecasting, investment planning, portfolio reporting, or benefits tracking.
  • The ability to gather requirements, facilitate discussions, and translate ideas into clear plans and actionable outcomes.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to work with Finance teams, project teams, and senior leaders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in a simple and engaging way.
  • Confidence working with tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, SharePoint, and Jira (or similar platforms).
  • Experience working across cross-functional teams and building strong relationships in a collaborative environment.

It would be advantageous if you have experience within a regulated industry, supporting governance forums, or working with UK and US teams. An understanding of data, digital, innovation, or portfolio management environments would also be beneficial.

Most importantly, you'll be proactive, curious, and highly organised, with a passion for improving processes, solving problems, and helping teams deliver successful outcomes.

What You'll Get

Competitive Salary: circa £55,208 – £65,208 per annum (based on capability and experience)

Additional benefits:

  • 26 days’ annual leave, plus 8 statutory bank holidays, with the option to buy additional holiday days and swap up to 3 bank holidays to better suit your personal needs.
  • A competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution, up to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
  • You will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance.
  • Flexible benefits including a cycle scheme, share incentive plan, and technology schemes.
  • Access to benefits such as a digital GP service for 24/7 GP video consultations and NHS repeat prescriptions, plus a wellbeing app to support your health and fitness.
  • Access to Work + Family Space, providing support and resources for work and family life, including paid emergency childcare and eldercare.
