Portfolio Director | Up to £100,000 + commission
Oxford based office 3 days a week
Springboard Success is recruiting a Portfolio Director for a well-established international B2B events and information business. The business runs specialist conferences, exhibitions and digital products for senior professionals in highly technical industries.
This is a senior commercial leadership role with real ownership. You’ll be accountable for the growth of a flagship portfolio, setting its direction, leading the teams that deliver it and reporting directly to senior leadership.
The opportunity
The business is looking for a commercially minded leader to take an established portfolio to the next stage. That means growing sponsorship revenue, expanding into digital products and building a sales function that performs consistently. You’ll have the autonomy to shape strategy, introduce new products and improve how the team works, with the backing of a leadership team that invests in growth.
What you’ll do
Strategy and growth
- Own the overall strategy and revenue performance for a portfolio of in-person events and digital products
- Identify opportunities to scale the brand, including new events, products and revenue streams
- Develop new commercial products based on market insight and client feedback, and present them to senior leadership for investment
- Work with leadership on account management and business development priorities across the wider business
Commercial leadership
- Head up the sponsorship and account development team, with full accountability for portfolio sales targets
- Set the sponsorship strategy for every event, including targets, pricing, inventory and packaging
- Grow average deal values, accelerate rebookings and deepen long-term client relationships
- Build the sales processes, data plans and pipeline management that drive productivity
- Report on commercial performance and forecasts to the COO and senior leadership team
Cross-functional leadership
- Lead and align teams across sales, content production, event operations, marketing and customer success
- Work with marketing leaders on lead generation and MQL strategy, giving clear feedback on campaign performance
- Make sure each event delivers a high-quality experience for sponsors and attendees, protecting the brand’s reputation
People leadership
- Recruit, coach and develop a high-performing sales team
- Manage performance day to day, setting clear objectives and creating a culture of accountability and success
- Roll out new processes and products across the team, and make sure they’re adopted and sold effectively
What success looks like
- Consistent year-on-year growth in sponsorship and portfolio revenue
- A motivated, well-structured sales team that hits target reliably
- Strong rebooking rates and long-term partnerships with key clients
- New products and revenue streams launched successfully alongside the core events
What you’ll bring
- 6+ years of commercial leadership in B2B events, conferences, media or information services
- A proven record of growing sponsorship, exhibition or partnership revenue
- Experience leading, coaching and motivating sales teams to deliver ambitious targets
- Experience of P&L or portfolio ownership, or of working closely alongside it
- Strategic thinking, combined with the hands-on drive to improve processes and performance
- The credibility to influence senior leadership and build relationships with senior clients
- Excellent organisation, adaptability and resilience across multiple projects
- Experience in a technical, scientific or specialist B2B sector would be an advantage
What’s on offer
- A highly competitive basic of up to £100,000, depending on experience
- An uncapped commission scheme
- Hybrid working
- A strong benefits package, including enhanced family leave, wellbeing support and ongoing training
- A senior role with genuine autonomy and visibility at leadership level
- The chance to shape the future of an established, growing portfolio
