Job Title: Portfolio Support (Associate Consultant) Location: Remote, with occasional national travel to Birmingham and London Contract: Fixed Term Contract – 9 months (potential to extend) Start date: ASAP Salary: £40,000 - £50,000, depending on experience Help us deliver an exceptional portfolio service At Pace, our consultants care about the impact their work has on our customers and the communities they serve. We bring together talented people who think differently, take ownership and work collaboratively to solve complex challenges. We are looking for a proactive, highly organised Portfolio Support (Associate Consultant) to support the delivery of our National Highways service. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a dynamic project and programme environment, providing high-quality coordination, governance, reporting and information-management support across multiple projects and workstreams. The role can be performed remotely, with occasional national travel to Birmingham and London for customer meetings, workshops and team activities. What you’ll be doing: Coordinating meetings, workshops and governance forums, including scheduling, logistics, agendas and meeting materials. Managing shared diaries and team mailboxes, helping to ensure timely responses and effective coordination. Coordinating the collection, consolidation and distribution of progress reports and performance information for the customer. Developing and maintaining templates, trackers and reporting tools. Maintaining document repositories and records, with effective version control and information-management practices. Supporting day-to-day service delivery and responding professionally to stakeholder requests. Maintaining accurate action logs, decision registers, risk and issue records, and wider governance documentation. Helping to improve the National Highways service and Pace’s internal ways of working, increasing efficiency, quality and consistency. What success looks like: In this role, you will help create a well-organised, responsive and dependable portfolio environment. Meetings and governance forums will be properly coordinated, actions and decisions will be accurately recorded, reporting information will be available when needed, and stakeholders will receive a consistently high standard of support. You will also contribute ideas that help the service improve, identifying practical opportunities to simplify processes, strengthen controls and make information easier for teams to access and use. These outcomes reflect the coordination, reporting, governance, information-management and continuous-improvement responsibilities in the role description. Required skills and experience: Essential Experience of working in a project, programme or portfolio-management environment. A good understanding of governance, reporting, risk, issue, decision and action-management processes. Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple activities and deadlines. Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate, high-quality information. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Confidence working with consultants, project and programme managers, and customer stakeholders. A proactive, collaborative and service-focused approach. The ability to work effectively and independently in a remote environment. The flexibility to travel occasionally to Birmingham and London. Desirable Experience supporting infrastructure, transport, engineering or public-sector programmes. Previous experience working with National Highways or a similar public-sector client. Experience coordinating governance forums and the production of portfolio reporting. Familiarity with programme-management information: document control, shared repositories, trackers and reporting tools. Personal Attributes Self-starting and accountable, with the ability to bring structure to ambiguity and drive work forward with limited direction. User-centred, with a focus on creating solutions that genuinely improve customers’ and colleagues’ day-to-day experience. Comfortable challenging established processes constructively, including identifying work that should be improved, automated, standardised or stopped. Credible, collaborative and confident when working with operational, technical and senior stakeholders. Organised and detail-oriented while retaining sight of strategic objectives and the wider operational picture. Motivated by the practical application of AI, automation and data to improve how complex organisations operate. Willing to undertake local UK travel to client locations as required.
