Job Description
This role focuses on migrating legacy SSRS and RDL-based reports to modern Power BI solutions built on a cloud-based enterprise data warehouse. You will reverse-engineer existing paginated reports, rebuild them using Power Query and DAX, and ensure that all outputs reconcile with legacy reports. You will collaborate closely with a highly engaged Reporting & Analytics team in a fully remote, fast-paced environment while working standard 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time hours.
Responsibilities
- Review and reverse-engineer existing RDL-based Power BI and SSRS reports, including all underlying SQL Server queries, stored procedures, and views.
- Rebuild each legacy report on the new cloud data warehouse platform using the established Power Query and DAX rebuild patterns adopted by the team.
- Write, optimize, and troubleshoot SQL against the cloud data warehouse to source report data, replacing existing SQL Server and Oracle references as each report is migrated.
- Design and implement Power Query (M) transformations and DAX measures and data models to accurately reproduce each reports logic in the new platform.
- Validate and reconcile each rebuilt report against its legacy counterpart to ensure data accuracy and consistency before marking the report as complete.
- Apply and follow team standards for report parameters, including sourcing CAG (Carrier/Account/Group) dropdown parameters from the governed Active_CAG table instead of per-report queries.
- Work from a shared, prioritized inventory of reports, focusing first on regulatory, compliance, and high-subscription reports to meet critical business needs.
- Coordinate assignments and progress with the Reporting & Analytics team to avoid duplicate work and conflicting rebuilds.
- Regularly communicate status, blockers, risks, and throughput to the Technical Operations Manager and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of reporting patterns, performance, and best practices as the migration progresses.
Essential Skills
- Proven analytics and business intelligence development experience, with a focus on report and dashboard creation.
- Hands-on SSRS and Power BI Paginated Report experience, including the ability to read, interpret, and rebuild RDL report definitions.
- Advanced T-SQL skills, including script optimization, stored procedure creation, view creation, and interpretation.
- Demonstrated experience migrating workloads from legacy reporting platforms, ideally from SSRS to Power BI.
- Strong Power BI experience, including building and maintaining reports using Power Query and DAX.
- Working knowledge of cloud data warehouses, with experience writing and troubleshooting SQL against a cloud-based schema such as Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, or Synapse, and a willingness to ramp quickly on the specific platform in use.
- Ability to validate and reconcile complex reports, ensuring accuracy between legacy and new reporting solutions.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with frequent communication and coordination.
Additional Skills and Qualifications
- Experience working specifically with Snowflake and Power Query is highly preferred.
- Background in healthcare or working with regulatory and compliance reporting is a plus.
- Experience with multiple versions of SQL Server or other relational databases, with a strong willingness to learn new cloud data warehouse technologies.
- Familiarity with modern enterprise data warehouse concepts and governed data models.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail when diagnosing data and reporting discrepancies.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical issues and progress to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Work Environment
This is a 100% remote role with standard working hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The team operates in a very collaborative environment, with frequent coordination across Reporting & Analytics and Technical Operations. You will work primarily with Power BI (including paginated reports), Power Query (M), DAX, and SQL against a cloud-based enterprise data warehouse, alongside legacy SQL Server and Oracle sources during the migration period. Communication and status updates are an integral part of the daily workflow, and you will use shared report inventories and team standards to drive consistency and avoid duplication. The environment emphasizes structured processes, governed data sources, and adherence to established reporting patterns, while providing opportunities to contribute to best practices and continuous improvement.
