Show job description

As an OBD & Emissions Core Ford Champ, you will play a key role in the Powertrain Calibration and Validation (VPSE) organization, focusing on the development of digital tools, connector databases, and the automation of sensor diagrams for Design Verification (DV) and OBD & Emissions calibration workflows. Working closely with Product Development, Calibration, and Test engineers, you will gain hands-on exposure to engine management, exhaust after-treatment diagnostics, and validation methodologies while driving process efficiency through automation and standardized technical data.

 What you´ll do:

  • Automate sensor diagram generation in Microsoft Visio using custom VBA scripts, macros, and API integrations to streamline Design Verification (DV) workflows.

  • Develop and maintain MATLAB® and Python tools to automatically parse data, generate schematics, and validate sensor wiring and connector pinouts.

  • Architect and populate a centralized relational database serving as the single source of truth for sensor connector pinouts, families, electrical specifications, and ECU interface pin assignments.

  • Support Powertrain Calibration & OBD Engineers in organizing, reviewing, and tracking Design Verification (DV) test plans and sensor monitoring strategies across vehicle programs.

  • Assist in vehicle and lab test data processing, utilizing scripting (Python/MATLAB) to perform automated data reduction, monitor behavior analysis, and summary reporting for diagnostic validations.

  • Collaborate with calibration teams to understand OBD-II monitors and exhaust sensor functionality (e.g., UEGO/HEGO, EGT, pressure, particulate sensors) to ensure automated diagrams reflect accurate electrical and functional requirements.

  • Analyze engineering workflows and identify bottlenecks, applying LEAN / Kaizen continuous improvement principles to improve data handoffs between Validation, Calibration, and Systems Engineering.

  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, engineering guidelines, and standardized diagram templates used for validation, testing setups, and agency compliance support.

What you´ll need:

  • Active student from any of the last 2 semesters of Mechatronics, Electrical, Electronics, Automotive, Mechanical, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related engineering degree.

  • 90% English skills (Oral, reading, writing, and listening – comfortable communicating in international technical environments).

  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with high initiative, self-learning capability, and enthusiasm for powertrain systems and vehicle diagnostics.

Technical Skills (Mandatory):

  • Proficiency in MATLAB® programming: Experience with scripting, data handling, file I/O, and tool/GUI development.

  • Microsoft Visio skills or Visio API: Experience with VBA macros, stencil automation, or automated diagram drawing.

  • Python programming: Proficiency in scripting, data manipulation (e.g., pandas), and automation scripts.

  • Foundational understanding of electrical circuits and sensors: Ability to interpret wiring schematics, connector pinouts, and basic sensor signals.

Technical Skills (Desirable):

  • Database Management & SQL: Knowledge of relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, SQLite) and query construction.

  • Powertrain & OBD Fundamentals: Basic exposure or interest in internal combustion engines, emissions control systems, and On-Board Diagnostics (OBD-II).

  • Automotive Calibration & Diagnostic Tools: Familiarity or exposure to calibration and acquisition environments (such as ETAS INCA, CANape, ATI Vision) and vehicle network protocols (CAN / LIN).

  • Automotive Harness & Connectivity: Basic understanding of automotive electrical wiring harness architecture and physical connectors.

  • Version Control: Familiarity with Git / GitHub for code and documentation versioning.
