About the company
Our client is a law firm.
The role
Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Lead a specialized legal practice group, combining senior legal review of complex files with people management and ownership of operational results. The role also involves collaborating with technical colleagues on internal tooling, with a path toward wider general management responsibility.
What you'll do
- Run the department and manage a small group of case managers, setting expectations, coaching and driving results.
- Track operational metrics such as file throughput, client satisfaction, turnaround times and stalled files, and hold weekly reviews.
- Work with engineering colleagues to prototype and build AI-powered tools that streamline the practice.
- Give senior legal guidance on complex matters involving criminal history and entry to the country, including temporary permits and rehabilitation applications.
- Guide the practice from a steady operating state toward growth by adding capacity, strengthening the client experience and improving profitability.
What we're looking for
- Current membership in good standing with a Canadian provincial bar, with the right to practise law in Canada.
- At least 2 years of work in immigration law, with some familiarity with criminal-record-related cases a plus.
- Proven leadership maturity: managing people, giving candid feedback and acting with an ownership mindset.
- Regular, practical use of generative AI tools and real interest in applying them to legal work.
- Commercial and operational awareness, with comfort using metrics and dashboards and understanding how a legal practice earns revenue.
- Based in Canada and able to come into the Toronto office one day a week.
Bonus points
- Ability to build quick prototypes using AI-assisted coding.
Compensation and benefits
- Base salary: CAD 120,000 to 160,000 per year
Location and work model
- Toronto, Ontario, Canada
- Hybrid, 1 day per week in office (remote considered for the right candidate anywhere in Canada)
- Full-time
