Principal Designer - BIM (Bridges)

AECOM’s Enterprise Capabilities team is looking for a Principal Designer - BIM Bridges to join our team in Gurugram/Bengaluru.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Designer – Bridges & Structures to join our Transportation team. This role presents an exciting opportunity to work on global, high-profile infrastructure projects, providing technical leadership in structural BIM modeling and detailing while utilizing advanced BIM and CAD technologies to deliver high-quality, coordinated, and constructible solutions.

The Principal Designer will be responsible for leading modeling and detailing activities, maintaining technical and modeling standards, supporting project delivery, and providing technical guidance to modelers and designers within the team.

Roles and Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & BIM Modeling

• Lead complex structural and bridge modeling and detailing activities for global infrastructure projects using Revit and AutoCAD.
• Develop and manage 3D bridge and structural models from scratch, based on engineering drawings, design information, and project requirements.
• Prepare and review General Arrangement (GA), Reinforced Concrete (RC) intent, reinforcement, and construction drawings in accordance with project and AECOM standards.
• Model complex structural elements with a strong understanding of structural engineering principles, constructability, and construction sequencing.
• Develop and maintain Revit families, templates, shared parameters, and project-specific modeling standards.
• Identify opportunities for BIM process improvement, automation, and productivity enhancement using Dynamo, Revit API/Python, or other digital tools.
• Provide technical input for establishing and improving BIM modeling workflows and project delivery strategies.

BIM Coordination & Quality Assurance

• Perform Navisworks-based clash detection and coordination across structural, architectural, MEP, and other disciplines.
• Review clash reports, coordinate with relevant teams, and support the resolution and closure of multidisciplinary clashes.
• Lead BIM model and drawing QA/QC reviews, ensuring accuracy, completeness, consistency, and constructability.
• Monitor model health, coordinates, worksets, links, naming conventions, parameters, and other BIM deliverable requirements.
• Ensure project deliverables comply with AECOM standards, project requirements, BIM standards, and ISO 19650 principles.
• Support the preparation, implementation, and maintenance of the BIM Execution Plan (BEP), ensuring project teams follow the defined BIM processes and standards.
• Ensure compliance with CDE workflows, information management requirements, and project-specific BIM deliverables.

Project Coordination & Delivery

• Coordinate with Project Leads, Design Leads, BIM Leads, and Lead Regions to understand project requirements, priorities, and delivery expectations.
• Provide technical support in resolving complex modeling, coordination, and drawing-related issues throughout project delivery.
• Support project planning, task prioritization, and resource allocation to achieve project milestones and deliverables.
• Monitor project progress and proactively identify technical risks, quality issues, and delivery constraints, escalating them when necessary.
• Contribute to lessons learned, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives across projects and teams.

Team Leadership & Development

• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Senior Modelers, Modelers, and Designers.
• Conduct technical knowledge-sharing and training sessions on Revit, AutoCAD, BIM coordination, QA/QC, and structural modeling practices.
• Review team members' work and provide constructive feedback to improve technical capability, modeling quality, and productivity.
• Promote a collaborative, quality-focused, and client-oriented culture within the team.
• Support team managers in identifying skill gaps, training requirements, and opportunities for capability development.

• Recognized Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering.
• A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in structural engineering modelling and detailing, with a focus on bridges.
• Proven expertise in 3D modelling using tools like Revit Structures and AutoCAD.
• Proficiency in ProjectWise, BIM 360/ACC, and other industry-standard tools.
• Strong understanding of structural engineering principles and construction sequencing.
• Proficient in written and verbal communication in English, with a strong command of technical terminology.
• Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
