Principal Engineer, Civil

Description Signal Energy’s Principal Engineer, Civil / Structural will serve as the subject matter expert and primary technical lead for Signal Energy’s PV and BESS civil and structural engineering efforts. Additionally, this role is accountable for developing and implementing civil/structural design standards and processes, growing, mentoring and managing the civil/structural design team and collaborating across disciplines to ensure our construction teams have constructable designs on time and in full compliance with client and regulatory requirements. Reports to: Director of Engineering Location/Travel: Remote or Chattanooga, TN; periodic travel for client meetings, project site visits, and industry events Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Oversee all civil/structural engineering efforts to ensure deliverables are submitted on time, comply with client and regulatory requirements, meet quality standards, and align with budget and constructability expectations Conduct and review civil/structural engineering designs and studies to develop deliverables and act as Engineer of Record for one or more projects simultaneously Lead, manage, and mentor the civil/structural design team on the technical delivery of PV and BESS projects Develop, implement and continuously improve a robust set of design standards, templates and best practices Recruit and mentor civil/structural engineering team members that embody Signal Energy’s Core Principles Champion innovation and creativity in design tools, processes and plant technology to keep Signal Energy an industry leader in PV and BESS engineering, procurement and construction Maintain knowledge of current and pending industry codes and standards; incorporate same into design tools and processes Interface with clients and other stakeholders to optimize project design and value; be the go-to expert for technical solutions Support pursuits with input on conceptual designs and engineering budgets Support Operations through resolution of RFIs, field changes and other design-related issues, including technical evaluations of any proposed changes to project design requirements, material specifications or means and methods Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless integration of electrical and high voltage design packages Attributes and Competencies : Technical expertise in Civil/Structural Engineering, including the preparation and assembling of plans, studies, calculations and specifications. Effective leader focused on developing and empowering team but willing to get “in the trenches” when necessary to meet objectives Highly organized, with ability to prioritize and track multiple, concurrent, high impact activities Driven by desire to continuously improve processes, tools and technology Operate with positivity and enthusiasm, especially in high-stress situations Excellent verbal and written communication skills Creative problem solver with the ability to balance tactical and strategic decisions Required Skills and Experience : Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil, Structural or related Engineering 10+ years of civil and/or structural design and engineering, including 5+ years in PV or BESS Professional Engineer license (one or more US states) Experience leading a team of engineers and designers Knowledge of AISC, ASCE, ANSI, ASTM and other applicable codes and standards Proficiency in applicable engineering software including AutoCAD Civil 3D, L-Pile, and relevant civil and structural analysis software preferred EPC experience preferred Signal Energy is an Equal Opportunity Employer and uses E-Verify.
