LAB3 is one of the largest Azure engineering practices in the Australasia region with a focus on Cloud & DevOps, Data, IoT & AI, Modern Workplace, Modern Apps & Integration, Security, and Network services. 

We are looking for a Principal Engineer- Data to lead, deliver and engineer technical data solutions on Microsoft Azure Platforms. You will leverage Modern Data solutions, bring an eye for automation, and adopt unique LAB3 products (MDP) to build and deploy client solutions.

Candidates can be based anywhere in Australia but for this engagement you must have active NV1 Security Clearance.

The role

  • Perform as the lead Engineer for technical client engagements. Lead, deliver and oversee Modern Data assessments, solutions, and implementation for our clients.

  • Engineer, advise and implement state-of-the-art technical patterns on Azure that address clients’ requirements for scalability, reliability, security, operations, and performance.

  • Participate in the consultation between LAB3 and clients to understand strategic business requirements and translate those into technical outcomes relating to effective cloud solutions.

  • Where required, architect and deploy framework-based ingestion capabilities for multi-zoned Big Data, Cloud analytics, and Enterprise Data Warehousing.

  • Communicate and present discoveries to Senior Management and Executive stakeholders (including C-Suite & Directors) as required

  • Provide technical reviews on the architecture blueprints, roadmaps and design deliverables whilst supporting engagements as a SME.

  • Partner with Project Leaders to provide technical input into scheduling, estimating activities and project delivery as required.

  • Support our Pre-sales teams in driving documentation, written requirements, and transformative direction.

  • Setup proof-of-concept prototypes that assess the feasibility of solutions and demonstrate to our clients how technology can be leveraged.

  • Run workshops and cloud adoption activities with our customers as necessary.

  • Recommend client value creation initiatives and implement industry best practices.

  • Identify, interpret, and communicate meaningful insights, conclusions, cost estimations, workshops, presentations, and report to clients, as required.

  • Participate in the hiring and interview process for new LAB3sters

  • Provide technical leadership and be a role model to engineers by providing onboarding support, influencing development plans, mentoring, educating, and encouraging best practice regarding designs and delivery execution processes.

  • Azure Cloud

  • Azure DevOps (DataOps)

  • Data Warehousing

  • Azure Data Factory (ADF)

  • Azure Synapse

  • Managed Virtual Network

  • Managed Private Endpoint

  • Azure DevOps Integration.

  • Azure Storage Account for NSG Flow Logs

  • Azure Networking: VNets, Subnet, NSGs

  • Database concepts: SQL Server, Azure SQL DB/MI and Application Services configuration

  • Knowledge on broader Azure Resources - Azure App Services, App Insights, Azure Logging, Azure Key Vault, Azure Virtual Machines which host Active-Directory Services, Azure Blob Storage, Azure Network Security Group, Integration and Authentication

  • Knowledge of CI/CD environment with tools such as Azure DevOps, IaC, ETL, CosmosDB, Event Hub, Managed End Point, Scorecards, Reporting & Dashboards, Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) and programming

  • Terraform

  • Databricks, Data Analytics, Data lakes, Data Modelling

  • T-SQL, Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Python, Scala, Impala or R

  • Power BI
