Experience GuideStone!
We are an innovative organization that invests in the spiritual, relational, financial, physical and professional development of our employees. We have a culture that values excellence, teamwork, humility, integrity, compassion and stewardship.
What We Offer You!
We offer employees a generous benefits package, flexible work schedules, the opportunity to be involved in community outreach and tuition reimbursement.
The Principal, Insurance Journey and Business Readiness serves as GuideStone’s enterprise-level authority for how insurance work flows end to end across sales, underwriting, onboarding, enrollment, billing, claims, servicing, finance and accounting, product, re-enrollment, insurance technology teams, and vendor partners. This role translates complex system and process change into clear operational designs, ownership decisions, readiness expectations, and adoption plans for stakeholders and team members. Working with autonomy and broad latitude for independent judgment, the role leads cross-functional alignment, identifies work that should be stopped, simplified, or automated, and ensures teams are prepared before changes go live. Through its standing role in the governance forum, this position helps reduce operational risk, clarify ownership, and sustain readiness across the insurance journey. We serve those that serve the Lord with the integrity of our hearts and the skillfulness of our hands. (Psalm 78:72)
NOTE: This role is a 14 month assignment.
What You'll Need:
- Maintains the single end-to-end view of the insurance journey across all in-scope process areas, including the handoffs between teams, and keeps that view current as the enterprise and its systems change.
- Serves as the business owner of future-state process designs, confirming that each design reflects how work will actually be performed and owned before it is accepted and built.
- Resolves where work is owned when two teams claim the same activity, and records each decision with a named owner and a date so it does not resurface.
- Identifies work that should stop, be simplified or be automated, and states where the freed capacity is redirected so the gain is not quietly absorbed.
- Translates process change into role, workload and skill implications and provides them to Human Resources on the schedule HR needs, so decisions about structure, skills and staffing rest on defined work rather than assumption.
- Leads readiness for each pilot and rollout group, confirming that process, ownership, handoffs and training are settled before that group goes live, and raising gaps early enough to close them.
- Keeps internal teams and external partners working from the same scope, so that work is neither duplicated nor dropped between delivery, change management, talent and organizational design partners, business leaders and Human Resources.
- Represents the cross-functional consequence of proposed system changes in prioritization discussions, partnering with the product and technology roles that own the technical decision.
- Establishes and monitors journey health measures once the system is in production, and reports what they show to leadership.
- Maintains and extends the method for future phases and later platforms, so the enterprise does not have to rebuild this understanding each time a system changes.
- Mentors process owners, analysts and business leads in end-to-end thinking, building the capability inside the teams rather than holding it in one seat.
What You'll Do:
- 12+ years of experience in insurance or benefits operations, business process design, or a closely related field, including work that spanned more than one function.
- Bachelor's degree in business, insurance, operations or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Deep working knowledge of how insurance work actually gets done across sales, underwriting, enrollment, billing, claims and servicing, sufficient to be credible with the people performing it.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to develop project plans, allocate resources effectively, monitor progress, and align project execution with organizational objectives.
- Demonstrated experience redesigning work, including having removed or simplified work rather than only documenting it.
- Experience through a full system implementation and at least one period of settling in afterward, with a practical understanding of how configuration choices become daily operational consequences.
- Ability to work with full autonomy on complex problems where there is no established answer, and to exercise complete latitude for independent judgment.
- Ability to bring leaders who disagree to a decision, and to make a recommendation hold because the reasoning is sound rather than because a reporting line requires it.
- Sound judgment about sequence, including knowing which decisions must be settled before others and being willing to hold work back when a needed input is not ready.
- Ability to mentor less experienced team members and to explain complex process change in plain language to audiences from practitioners to executives.
- Proficient skills in MS Office and appropriate GuideStone system applications.
- Must have complete confidentiality regarding GuideStone business matters.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
