Role Summary

Temporal helps developers build applications and AI agents that keep track of work and recover when a service fails. Customers compare Temporal with other software and with systems they build themselves using queues, cloud services, and frameworks.

We’re hiring a Product Marketing Engineer to help build Temporal’s first competitive intelligence program and work with system integrator (SI) partners. You’ll decide what to study, how to support Sales, and what the company should do with the findings. You’ll also help SI partners build and sell solutions with Temporal.

This is a highly visible role with regular work across Sales, GTM leadership, Product, and Engineering, including discussions with our CEO and CTO. You’ll choose priorities, make recommendations, and move work forward without waiting for detailed instructions. You’ll also work with SI leaders and a peer who leads benchmarking, using the results in product recommendations, partner content, and sales guidance.

What you’ll do

  • Build the competitive program. Set up how we collect customer and sales questions, choose what to investigate, publish answers, and keep them current. Compare direct competitors, products that solve part of the same problem, and systems customers build with queues, cloud services, or application and AI frameworks.

  • Work with selected SI partners to choose customer problems to solve together. With their technical teams and Temporal’s partner team, create architecture diagrams, working examples, and technical guides that show how Temporal works with the systems they build and support.

  • Try the products you’re comparing. Read their docs and code, use their SDKs, and build small applications. Explain what developers need to build, what happens when something fails, how the application is run, and what it costs.

  • Tell Product, Engineering, Sales, and Marketing what should change and why. Check whether the problem calls for a product or SDK change, clearer docs or messaging, a different deployment option, or a change in pricing. Explain the customer’s problem, what you checked, the options, and your recommendation.

  • Keep one place for current competitive answers and guides SI teams can reuse. Write product comparisons, questions to ask customers, answers to common objections, and instructions for evaluations. Link to your sources and show what was tested, what customers reported, and what still needs checking.

  • Join selected customer calls with SI partners, sellers, and Solutions Architects. Find out what the customer needs, check competing claims, explain how Temporal would work, and help prepare evaluations. Write down answers to questions other teams are likely to hear.

  • Create workshops and training for SI architects and consultants, and practical guidance for Temporal’s SDRs, AEs, and SAs. Work with Enablement, other PMEs, and EMEA and APJ Enablement Leads to train teams, share the material, and use their feedback to improve it.

  • Send monthly updates to the company and sales teams, and prepare quarterly reviews with leadership. Explain what changed, what we learned, and what we should build or do differently, including where Temporal needs to improve. Bring clear recommendations and follow through on decisions.

  • Work with the benchmarking specialist, DevRel, and SI partners to explain what test results show and where they apply. Use the findings in comparisons and technical articles. Help Investor Relations explain competitive differences when needed.

What you’ll bring

  • Experience in technical product marketing, competitive intelligence, Solution Engineering, or software engineering for infrastructure or developer products. Show how your work helped a product team decide what to build, helped a customer choose a product, or changed how a sales team approached a deal.

  • You can learn an unfamiliar product, use its APIs and SDKs, and build a working example. You can discuss how an application works and what happens when it fails, ask useful questions, and recognize when you need a specialist.

  • You can explain why a technical difference matters: what the customer has to build, what it costs to run, or why they might choose another product.

  • You can brief an executive, answer tough questions about your recommendation, and explain the same finding to a seller or customer. You can write technical comparisons that engineers can check.

  • Experience working with SIs, cloud providers, or other technology companies on content, training, or customer projects. You can interview developers and buyers and check what they need before making a recommendation.

  • You have built a program or taken on work with little structure. You can choose priorities, make decisions with incomplete information, and keep work moving without close supervision. You know when to act, when to ask for a decision, and how to challenge a senior leader’s assumption with facts. You are willing to change your view when new information comes in.

Useful experience

  • Distributed systems, workflow orchestration, databases, messaging, cloud infrastructure, or AI application development.

  • Building a competitive program or writing technical guides and training for sales teams in several regions.

  • Helping SI teams build services for customers who are updating existing applications, automating business processes, or adding AI.

What success looks like

Sellers use current, accurate competitive answers in customer conversations. SI teams use the guides, training, and examples in customer projects. Account teams answer important questions before customers decide, and Product, Sales, and Marketing act on your recommendations. We’ll also look at competitive win rates and wins with SI partners as shared results.
