Principal Python Engineer (FastAPI/Azure/AKS) - Portugal Full Remote

The project

We're looking for a Principal Python Engineer to join a major retail organisation, working on high-scale software products used by millions of users.

You'll set technical direction across multiple teams, designing scalable Python services and cloud architectures while helping define engineering standards and best practices. The role combines hands-on development with architecture, Azure infrastructure, data solutions, security, observability, and technical leadership.

Stack: Python, FastAPI, Azure, AKS, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Kafka/Kinesis

Location: Full Remote – Portugal

Compensation: €2,500 – €3,250/month net, depending on experience and seniority level.

What you need

• 12+ years of experience as a Python Engineer, at Principal or equivalent level
• Strong Python and FastAPI expertise
• Deep hands-on experience with Azure cloud infrastructure
• Strong Kubernetes, AKS, Docker, and Terraform experience
• Strong software architecture and engineering principles
• Experience setting technical direction across multiple teams
• Strong focus on testing, security, performance, and observability
• Experience supporting and troubleshooting production systems
• Expert-level Agile experience
• Understanding of AI systems and their differences from traditional software
• Fluent English (C1+)

Nice to have: CI/CD, Kafka or AWS Kinesis, and experience building AI-enabled applications.
