The Team You’ll Join
You will join a specialized engineering team focused on building scalable, data-driven reporting platforms that deliver accurate insights for financial services clients. As a Principal Engineer, you’ll partner with senior engineers, product, and business stakeholders to solve complex challenges, shape technical strategy, and drive high-impact initiatives at enterprise scale. The team is focused on advancing modern architectures, AI/ML-enabled applications, and agentic engineering practices to improve reliability, accelerate delivery, and elevate reporting capabilities.

Responsible for building scalable, secure platforms in support of Envestnet business operations, including wealth management, financial data aggregation and advisor-driven technology solutions. Works across cloud-based architectures, integrating complex data sources and APIs to deliver reliable, high-performance systems. Collaborates with product managers, data scientists and compliance stakeholders to meet both business and regulatory requirements.

Our Investment in You
This role offers a base salary range of $184,200 to $230,300. The range listed represents a good-faith estimate of base salary compensation for this position and does not include incentive compensation, equity or benefits. Individual pay will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, in accordance with applicable pay transparency laws. This role is eligible for an additional incentive component as part of the total rewards package.

- Defines and drives long-term technical strategy and architecture across multiple systems.
- Leads large-scale, high-impact initiatives that align with business objectives.
- Solves highly complex, ambiguous technical challenges with innovative solutions.
- Influences engineering standards, policies, and best practices across the organization.
- Acts as a key advisor to senior leadership on technology decisions.
- Mentors senior engineers and develop future technical leaders.
- Evaluates and adopts new technologies to drive innovation and competitive advantage.
- Ensures system scalability, reliability, and performance at enterprise scale.
- Leads cross-functional initiatives involving engineering, product, and business teams.
- Designs and improves enterprise-grade CI/CD frameworks, deployment strategies, and automation pipelines.
- Partners with DevOps/SRE to define infrastructure patterns (scalability, observability, resilience).
- Defines and advances enterprise-scale reporting technology, including modern application architectures, RESTful APIs, advanced SQL, and performance reporting logic for financial services clients.
- Leads the design, enhancement, and production support of Python-based AI/ML applications, ensuring reliability, scalability, and alignment with business requirements.
- Champions agentic coding workflows and AI-enabled development practices to accelerate delivery, improve quality, and increase efficiency across the software development lifecycle.
- Partners with QA, business stakeholders, and engineering teams to translate complex reporting needs into robust, maintainable technical solutions.
- Candidates should demonstrate the relevant experience, skills, and capabilities needed to successfully perform in the role. Relevant experience may be gained through current responsibilities, prior roles, project work, leadership opportunities, or other comparable experiences.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field required.
- Extensive experience translating complex business requirements into robust, maintainable technical solutions for reporting, analytics, or data-intensive platforms.
- Strong knowledge of performance reporting calculations, financial reporting logic, data quality, calculation accuracy, and operational continuity in production environments.
- Experience modernizing and maintaining large, complex legacy systems while preserving critical institutional and domain knowledge.
- Strong technical background with .NET, xUnit, Reqnroll, RESTful APIs, and API management solutions such as Apigee.
- Experience with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Redis, and ElastiCache.
- Experience with AWS services including EC2, S3, ELB, ASG, API Gateway, Lambda, RDS, EKS, CloudWatch, SQS.
- Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Kafka, CloudFormation, CDK, Terraform, DevOps practices, automation, agile delivery, Scrum, and test-driven development.
- Experience partnering with QA, business stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to ensure successful end-to-end delivery and production support.
- Demonstrated ability to perform code reviews, enforce engineering best practices, mentor engineers, and drive quality standards and design principles.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence technical direction, advise senior leaders, and support knowledge transfer for critical reporting platform capabilities.
