Principal Technologist – AI, Automation & Robotics

£113,000–£123,000 FTE | Permanent | 36 hours per week

About the role

Lancashire Solutions is a global consultancy and technology company working with clients ranging from the British Government and Fortune 500 organisations to ambitious startups.

We are looking for a Principal Technologist to lead technical direction across our artificial intelligence, automation and robotics portfolio.

You will be a senior technical authority and trusted adviser to clients, working alongside our Principal Solution Engineer and Principal Consultant, and collaboratively with Senior Project Managers and Delivery Managers. Your focus will be making sure our technology choices and deliverables solve the right problems and create meaningful client value.

You will also lead and develop a team of Senior Technologists across multiple engagements.

What you’ll do

* Set technical direction across complex AI, intelligent automation and robotics engagements, from discovery and solution design through delivery and adoption.

* Work directly with clients and senior stakeholders to translate business challenges into practical technology strategies, architectures and roadmaps.

* Keep technical deliverables aligned to the outcomes clients value most, challenging assumptions where necessary.

* Provide technical assurance across architecture, integration, scalability, security, maintainability and delivery risk.

* Lead, coach and provide oversight to Senior Technologists working across a varied client portfolio.

* Collaborate across consulting, solution engineering, project and delivery leadership to balance technical ambition with commercial and operational realities.

* Evaluate emerging technologies and build-versus-buy options objectively, recommending approaches appropriate to each client.

* Establish reusable technical standards, patterns and good practices across the organisation.

What we’re looking for

You are likely to bring significant experience in technical leadership, architecture, engineering or technology transformation.

We are particularly interested in:

  • Deep expertise in one or more of AI, automation, robotics, software engineering, cloud, data or intelligent systems, with sufficient breadth to lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience translating business objectives into technical strategies and deliverable programmes of work.
  • Strong client and stakeholder communication, including with executive and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience leading senior technical specialists and establishing effective technical ways of working.
  • Strong judgement across quality, cost, risk, scalability and client value.
  • Experience operating across multiple projects, programmes or client environments.

Consulting, professional services, government technology or enterprise transformation experience would be useful, but is not essential. We value demonstrable capability and judgement over a particular academic pathway. If you meet most, but not every, requirement, we still welcome your application.

How we work

We are remote-first. There are no mandatory weekly office days; in-person attendance is expected only where there is a genuine business or client need.

Our standard full-time week is 36 hours, with flexible working including a nine-day fortnight. We welcome part-time applications from 20 hours per week and job-share applicants where we can match two suitable candidates.

Benefits include 18 weeks fully paid maternity leave and six weeks fully paid paternity leave.

Occasional travel may be required to our hubs in Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, Dover (USA) and Manchester, or to client locations. Required international business travel is fully funded and compensated, with first-class flights provided wherever available and practicable.

Why join us?

You will help shape how Lancashire Solutions applies AI, automation and robotics to real operational and strategic problems, while influencing our technical standards, developing senior colleagues and working across a highly varied client portfolio.
