Show job description

We’re looking for an experienced Product Designer, to temporarily support our team (+/- 6 months). In this role you are responsible for ensuring that Assai products solve meaningful customer problems while delivering intuitive, efficient and engaging user experiences.

You combine customer research, product discovery, UX design and UI design to shape products from concept through delivery and continuous improvement. Working closely with Product Managers, customers and engineers, you translate customer needs and business objectives into coherent product experiences and measurable outcomes.

You contribute to developing, shaping and articulating product vision, strategy, objectives and goals. Through customer interviews, contextual inquiry, workflow analysis, usability testing and product data, you identify unmet needs, validate assumptions and provide evidence that informs product priorities and decisions. You create and validate user journeys, information architectures, interaction models, prototypes, design systems and visual interfaces. You champion customer-centered thinking and help establish consistent research, discovery and design practices across Assai.

What you'll do

As a Product Designer, you’ll help shape complex enterprise products from early discovery through to production. You’ll work closely with customers, Product Management and Engineering to understand real-world needs, turn insights into clear product experiences, and make sure those experiences are both useful and practical to build.

You’ll lead and contribute to customer research, product discovery and design activities, using interviews, usability testing, prototypes and other methods to uncover opportunities and test ideas before significant development investment. You’ll translate what you learn into user flows, information architectures, wireframes, interfaces and prototypes, continuously refining your designs based on evidence and feedback.

Together with Product Managers, you’ll help shape product vision, strategy and priorities, bringing the customer perspective into roadmap and investment decisions. You’ll facilitate workshops and discovery sessions and help define meaningful user outcomes and measures of success. You’ll also help maintain and evolve Assai’s design system, ensuring a consistent, accessible and high-quality experience across the product. Working closely with Engineering, you’ll provide clear design guidance and help ensure the final implementation matches the intended experience.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing coherent end-to-end experiences for complex enterprise workflows, from concept to production.

  • Planning and conducting customer research, synthesizing insights into actionable product opportunities.

  • Collaborating with Product and Engineering to shape product direction, priorities and outcomes.

  • Evolving the design system, interaction patterns and visual language while maintaining accessibility and usability.

  • Advocating for customer-centered, evidence-based design and sharing knowledge across the organization.

What you bring

You’re an experienced Product Designer who enjoys getting to the heart of complex problems. You combine strong design craft with curiosity about customers, products and technology, and you’re comfortable moving between research, discovery, strategy and hands-on design.

You have at least five years of experience in Product Design, UX Design or a similar role, ideally working on complex enterprise or SaaS products. A degree in Product Design, Interaction Design, UX, HCI, Psychology or a related field is helpful, but equivalent practical experience is equally valuable.

You understand how to turn customer needs and evidence into meaningful product opportunities. You’re comfortable planning and conducting research, facilitating workshops, exploring ideas through prototypes and testing concepts with users. You can translate these insights into clear, intuitive experiences and work with Product Managers to connect design decisions to product strategy and outcomes.

You’re also a strong hands-on designer. You have solid skills in interaction and visual design, information architecture and prototyping, and you know how to create and maintain design systems and reusable components. You’re highly proficient in Figma and familiar with modern product design and research tools. An understanding of front-end development, responsive design and component-based frameworks such as Material UI is a plus.

Just as important, you enjoy working with people. You communicate clearly, tell compelling stories and can bring customers, stakeholders, Product and Engineering together around a shared understanding. You’re curious, pragmatic and comfortable taking ownership, while knowing when to collaborate and ask for input.

In particular, we’re looking for someone who can:

  • Combine customer insight with strong design craft to create thoughtful, effective product experiences.

  • Work strategically and hands-on, from product discovery and research through to detailed interface design and implementation.

  • Collaborate confidently with Product, Engineering, customers and stakeholders in an agile, international environment.

  • Champion evidence-based design, using research and experimentation to help teams make better product decisions.

  • Communicate and influence, sharing your thinking clearly and helping others grow their understanding of customer-centered design.

Why join Assai?

At Assai, you'll become part of an ambitious international software company where your ideas matter. We’re looking for someone to temporarily support our team. This role is open to both employment and freelance arrangements and we are happy to discuss the option that best fits your experience, preferences and the needs of the role.

We offer:

  • A meaningful role with real business impact.

  • An international, collaborative working environment.

  • Possibility to work partly from home (40%), we expect 3 days in the office in Culemborg (or Amsterdam);

  • 32-40 hours per week

  • Plenty of room for personal and professional development.

  • Relocation and/or Visa are not supported for this role

Please note that a Certificate of Conduct (VOG) is required for his role.
