Your role within the team
This position leads technical product development for dietary and nutritional supplement products manufactured in North America for H&H China market. The role provides end-to-end technical leadership across the product portfolio, from initial formulation and feasibility assessment through pilot-scale trials, process validation, and full-scale manufacturing. Working within a cross-functional team, the Product Development Manager partners closely with internal stakeholders, contract manufacturers, suppliers, and global partners to deliver compliant, high-quality products. This is a key R&D role with opportunities for continued professional growth and development.
Duties and responsibilities
- Apply deep technical expertise across dietary and nutritional supplement dosage forms - including tablets, softgels, hard capsules, powders, and liquids - to partner with the China R&D and Marketing teams in developing differentiated products and successfully bringing them to market.
- Serve as the technical lead for China-market SWISSE and BIOSTIME projects in US. Define and recommend key product requirements; evaluate technical and safety feasibility; support claims substantiation; confirm regulatory considerations; and support process validation.
- Lead technical communication with U.S.-based contract manufacturers regarding formulations, trial protocols and agreements, process development, scale-up, and manufacturing process controls.
- Support manufacturing capacity and supply continuity through the technical transfer of existing products to additional contract manufacturers.
- Evaluate raw material specifications and formulation information for technical suitability, regulatory compliance, quality requirements, and the ability to support intended product claims.
- Provide technical and scientific support in addressing consumer, customer, manufacturing, and quality-related issues.
- Conduct literature and technical research on current and emerging product trends, ingredients, and processing technologies relevant to the dietary supplement market.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with contract manufacturers, key suppliers, and project partners.
- Manage technical deliverables and priorities against defined project timelines to achieve required outcomes on schedule.
- Actively participate in cross-functional project meetings, providing clear input on deliverables, timelines, technical risks, and development processes to support business decisions and project execution.
- Drive continuous improvement in NPD ways of working, tools, documentation, and team efficiency across Product Development and the broader business.
- Consistently follow H&H systems and processes, including change control, document control requirements, and relevant digital platforms.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacy, Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific or technical discipline.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree, or 6 years with a master's degree, in dietary supplements, nutritional supplements, or a closely related manufacturing industry.
- Demonstrated experience developing dietary or nutritional supplement products for multiple markets, including successful commercialization and product launches.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Mandarin proficiency is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of end-to-end new product development, product quality and stability evaluation, food safety requirements, and applicable regulatory considerations.
- Extensive knowledge of dietary supplement formulation calculations, dosage forms, raw materials, manufacturing processes, scale-up, and quality assurance requirements.
- Strong cross-functional collaborator who communicates effectively with technical and nontechnical stakeholders and demonstrates curiosity and a commitment to continued learning.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while meeting demanding timelines.
- Consistently delivers high-quality work with strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and effective problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrates business acumen and the ability to balance technical requirements with commercial and project needs.
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively within the United States, with occasional international or cross-regional travel.
This is a remote role with approximately 15% domestic and international travel, including travel to China. Because the role supports our China business while partnering with U.S.-based manufacturers, flexibility in working hours is required, and schedules may vary depending on business needs and time zones; West Coast candidates are preferred.
