Executas HR & Business Solutions is seeking an experienced Product Owner – R&D Data & AI on behalf of our client, a Netherlands-based international life sciences company focused on developing innovative therapies.

This is a unique opportunity for a product professional who can translate complex scientific needs into high-value data and AI products while building a strong bridge between life sciences, data, and technology.

The successful candidate will take end-to-end ownership of the product vision, roadmap, and backlog for one or more products within the company’s R&D Data & AI ecosystem.

The Role

As Product Owner, you will work closely with scientific stakeholders, data engineers, data scientists, AI teams, architects, and UX specialists to ensure that the products delivered are:

• Scientifically meaningful,
• Technically robust and sustainable,
• Aligned with data governance standards,
• Widely adopted by their intended users.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and own the product vision, roadmap, and backlog for R&D data and AI products.
• Translate scientific questions and R&D strategies into clear product goals, MVPs, and incremental delivery plans.
• Prioritize initiatives based on scientific value, feasibility, dependencies, and potential impact.
• Act as the bridge between scientists and technical teams by translating research workflows, hypotheses, and scientific needs into actionable data and analytics requirements.
• Proactively identify opportunities beyond initial stakeholder requests.
• Create and refine user stories, acceptance criteria, and product priorities.
• Collaborate closely with data engineers, data scientists, architects, AI teams, and UX specialists to ensure high-quality delivery.
• Actively participate in sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Serve as a trusted partner and primary point of contact for scientific and business stakeholders.
• Drive product adoption through clear communication, training, and structured feedback loops.
• Measure product success through agreed scientific, operational, and adoption metrics.
• Ensure compliance with data governance, data quality, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
• Promote consistency, scalability, and reuse across R&D data products.

Qualifications and Experience

• Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Biomedical Sciences, Bioinformatics, Life Sciences, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
• At least five years of experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, Business Analyst, or in a similar role involving data, analytics, or digital products.
• Demonstrated experience working with scientific or R&D data within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, or life sciences sectors.
• Proven ability to work credibly and effectively with both scientists and technical teams.
• Strong product ownership experience in Agile environments.
• Solid understanding of scientific data structures and research workflows.
• Ability to translate complex scientific needs into clear, actionable, and prioritized product requirements.
• Experience with advanced analytics, AI/ML, or Generative AI products in R&D environments.
• Knowledge of FAIR data principles, metadata management, and data catalogues.
• Experience working in regulated environments, including GxP and data privacy requirements.
• Fluent English, with the ability to work effectively in an international environment.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication, analytical thinking, and prioritization skills.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in one or more scientific data domains, such as discovery, preclinical, clinical, biomarkers, omics, or real-world data.
• Experience with scientific data platforms and data governance frameworks.
• A proven track record of driving the adoption and scaling of data or AI products.
