WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Product Owner, Systems Solutions Applications is a member of AVI-SPL’s Systems Solutions product management team, reporting to the VP, Product Management. This role is the voice of the business for the platforms and applications that run the Systems Integration (SIG) line of business, translating business needs into a clear, prioritized backlog and ensuring the delivery teams build the right things in the right order.

A significant part of this role will be supporting Project Unity, AVI-SPL’s global deployment of Microsoft Dynamics 365, as a core team member working alongside and in support of the Project Unity Team Leads. The Product Owner will also own the backlog for other SIG application development initiatives, including the custom project delivery tools, integrations and reporting used by Operations teams.

Project Unity (Microsoft Dynamics 365):

  • Serve as a core member of the Project Unity team, supporting the Project Unity Team Leads and representing Systems Integration (SIG) business needs.
  • Participate in fit-gap and solution design workshops with the Team Leads and the implementation partner, providing SIG process knowledge and helping identify where standard Dynamics 365 functionality can meet the business need.
  • Support the Team Leads in reviewing the current Project Operations customization inventory, documenting business justification and recommending which items should be retained, changed, moved or retired.
  • Document and refine SIG requirements and user stories as assigned by the Team Leads/
  • Work with Business Architects and Business Analysts to capture SIG process flows and data requirements for Dynamics 365 and connected platforms.
  • Assist with data migration and cutover activities by helping define data requirements and validating migrated SIG data.
  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT) by writing test scenarios, executing tests, coordinating SIG business testers and logging and tracking defects.
  • Help the change management and training teams prepare SIG end users for each release, including demos, training content and knowledge transfer.
  • Raise risks, issues and open decisions to the Project Unity Team Leads and follow them through to resolution.

Systems Integration Application Portfolio:

  • Own the product vision, roadmap and backlog for SIG app development initiatives outside of Unity, including custom Power Platform apps, integrations, automations and reporting.
  • Continually gather feedback from operations to identify improvements and new opportunities.
  • Coordinate dependencies and sequencing between Unity and other SIG initiatives so work is not duplicated and the roadmap stays aligned.
  • Define and track success measures (adoption, cycle time, data quality, user satisfaction) for each product and use them to guide priorities.

Product Ownership & Agile Delivery:

  • Create, maintain and prioritize the product backlog so that it always reflects the highest business value, balancing new features, enhancements, technical debt and defects.
  • Organize requirements into epics, features and user stories with clear, testable acceptance criteria, and identify dependencies between them.
  • Lead backlog refinement and actively participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups (as needed), sprint reviews and retrospectives.
  • Be available to the delivery team to answer questions and make timely decisions on scope and behavior.
  • Review completed work against acceptance criteria and accept or reject it so work can be designated as complete.
  • Coordinate release planning, testing and deployment of features with the Program Managers and IT.
  • Manage scope changes through the established change control process, assessing impact on cost, schedule and business value.

Stakeholder Management & Communication:

  • Serve as the primary day-to-day business point of contact for SIG stakeholders on SIG application initiatives, and as a liaison between SIG stakeholders and the Project Unity Team Leads.
  • Build consensus across business units and global regions on feature priorities, and escalate unresolved conflicts to the VP, Product Management.
  • Provide clear, consistent updates on roadmap, progress, risks and decisions to business leaders, the IT steering committee and delivery teams.
  • Prepare and present demos of new functionality to stakeholders and end users.
  • Travel to regional offices to directly interface with team members on an as-needed basis.
  • Special projects as required.
