TRL is a world-leading provider of software and services for the transport and mobility sectors. TRL Software designs and delivers cutting-edge software solutions that improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability across the world’s transport networks.
We are looking for a high-calibre Product Owner to join our team. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and detail-oriented individual keen to grow their career within product management. In this role, you will support the delivery of impactful software solutions by helping shape product requirements, prioritise the backlog, and represent the voice of the customer. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product, design, engineering, and business stakeholders, to ensure we build the right things—and build them well.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a strong interest in software product management, who has credible experience, thrives on collaboration and wants to make a difference in a dynamic, agile environment. You should be willing to travel within the UK when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Product Growth team to refine product strategies and roadmap initiatives
- Define, prioritise, and maintain a clear and actionable product backlog
- Write detailed user stories and acceptance criteria that translate customer needs into development-ready features
- Participate in Agile ceremonies such as stand-ups, sprint planning, demos, and retrospectives
- Support delivery by ensuring the team has a well-groomed backlog and proactively remove blockers
- Contribute to market and user research, bringing insights into product planning and decisions
- Assist in the creation of product-related content (user group material, blog posts, website content)
- Engage with users to gather feedback and validate product improvements
About You
You will have 8-12 years' experience in traffic engineering, transport technology or operational software. Of which:
- 4 years + should be in a product-focused role (Product Owner, BA, Product Mgr) and 3+ years working with complex B2B software, UTC systems or similar technology platforms.
- You should have proven knowledge of the traffic engineering environment and customer needs
- Direct experience working with customers and engineering teams to shape requirements, manage roadmaps, prioritise delivery, support commercial bids, and present product ideas, options, and progress clearly to customer audiences.
- Ability to understand and represent user needs, supported by research and data.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage directly with customers, facilitate discussions, explain complex software or traffic engineering concepts clearly, and build trusted working relationships
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
- Analytical mindset with a willingness to learn technical concepts.
2-4 years' experience in Intelligent Transport Systems, with exposure to traffic management technologies, Agile product development, UX and data analysis, and collaboration tools such as Jira and Azure DevOps would be advantageous but not essential.
Build products that matter. Shape the future of transport. Grow your career with TRL.
