The Production Control Team Lead is responsible for managing the workload, schedules, and day‑to‑day operations of a team of Application Server Administrators. They also provide guidance, operational expertise, problem resolution, and mentoring to other team members. The Team Lead is accountable for the reliability, stability, and availability of production control processes, batch scheduling workflows, and related operational services. They will be working in a team that supports enterprise applications, batch workflows, and change control processes across multiple business areas.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Manage workloads, schedules and day-to-day operations of the analyst and coordinate the distribution of work, ensuring timely processing of requests, incidents, and workflow changes.
• Oversees resource allocation and capacity planning to ensure team alignment with project demands and timelines.
• Act as the first point of contact for performance-related matters, both day-to-day and within project deliverables, assessing performance and delivering timely guidance to maintain adherence to timelines and quality standards.
• Ensure optimal availability of technical solutions and services that support business functions.
• Oversee and lead the implementation of technology activities within the team and coordinate those activities with relevant members of the larger McGill University IT Community. Works with vendors’ technical support staff as needed.
• Participate in planning and integrating new or updated technical solutions that impact batch scheduling or workflow execution.
• Works with the manager to improve IT technologies efficiency and effectiveness.
• Scope, plan, develop and deliver technology components under own responsibility for end-to-end services, which meet or exceed quality standards in accordance with planned budget and schedule. Work with vendors’ technical support staff as needed.
• Perform capacity and resource planning by assessing risks and developing contingency plans.
• Monitor, analyse, and tune complex platforms to achieve optimal performance levels.
• Ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines of systems and platforms under their responsibility. Conduct routine audits of workflows, access permissions, and operational processes to ensure adherence to controls.
• Develop and maintain a comprehensive technical system configuration and library of all supporting documentation and ensures knowledge transfer and training of other team members.
• Participate in the recommendation of strategies from business continuity, disaster recovery, monitoring, storage and security.
• Provide mentoring to less experienced team members.
• Identify risks and propose mitigation strategies for technical solutions and/or services
• Stay abreast of related technologies and ensure solutions meet required technical design and specifications and that deliverables adhere to best practices and standards.
• When required acts as a backup or represents the Portfolio Manager Physical Storage & Data Center Operations team

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Education: Undergraduate Degree

Experience: Five (5) years’ related experience

• Strong leadership and demonstrated effective communication, writing, planning and coordination skills
• Ability to facilitate and lead technical discussions
• Ability to recognize priorities, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
• Strong understanding of incident management

• Strong experience in installing, configuring, operating, monitoring, tuning, troubleshooting, and maintaining Server and Application systems infrastructure
• Self-motivated, autonomous and ability to work well with multiple teams in cross functional set-up.

• Strong experience with building and managing load-balanced high availability configurations and high availability topologies such as database clusters and/or application server clusters
• Strong experience in working with enterprise-scale applications where demand is high for system reliability, availability and performance.
• Strong expertise with performance tuning , benchmarking and load profiling
• Familiarity with complex network and firewall issues as they pertain to building and configuring high availability topologies
