Department Overview: The College of Letters & Science Honors Program aims to put into action the values of a liberal arts education and enhance the experience of academically engaged and intellectually curious undergraduate students. Housed in Washburn Observatory, the L&S Honors Program provides students with intensive learning opportunities; encourages student-faculty collaboration; supports opportunities for students to engage in research and scholarship; seeks to create community and belonging among students; and promotes leadership, service, and engaged citizenship with respect for all. Anticipated Start Date: November 2026 Anticipated End Date (If Applicable): December 2027 (with ability to extend) Remote Work Eligibility Detail: Partially Remote Anticipated Hours Per Week: Minimum: 6 Maximum: 10 Schedule: Consistent weekly schedule to be determined by student and supervisor; primarily Monday-Friday between the hours of 9am-4pm with an occasional evening and/or weekend to support events depending on interest and availability. The position will work primarily in person. Most work will be in an office environment in Washburn Observatory with occasional shifts at other campus locations to support Honors activities. Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum: Minimum: $15.00 Number of Positions: 1 Qualifications: -- Must be an enrolled undergraduate student for the 2026-27 Academic Year and Fall 2027. -- Must be a declared student in the L&S Honors Program pursuing an Honors in the Liberal Arts, Honors in the Major, or Comprehensive Honors track. -- Solid experience and comfort with utilizing Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and/or Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Forms) and a willingness to learn new skills and software programs. -- Sophomores and juniors are particularly encouraged to apply. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities : -- Interest in administrative and programmatic operations in an office setting and a desire to build transferable skills. -- Attention to detail and organizational skills. -- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. -- Willingness to learn, ask questions, and seek information. Position Summary/Job Duties: Administrative and Communications Tasks -- Compile and edit news items for the Washburn Observer e-newsletter, proofread each issue, and prepare weekly distribution in Mailchimp, in coordination with advising staff. -- Assist with developing and maintaining website content, including creating news stories. -- Prepare donor acknowledgment letters and assist with communications to alumni. -- Attend team meetings and draft minutes. -- Provide general office support such as greeting/assisting visitors, ordering/maintaining supplies, answering phones, responding to emails, and keeping common spaces tidy. Program Support Tasks -- Assist with planning and execution of Honors events, e.g., coordinating logistics, ordering food, preparing materials, and offering input to Honors staff. -- Participate in admissions events for prospective students/families to provide an Honors student perspective (as interested & available). -- Contribute ideas and support projects, with the potential to utilize skill sets that you currently have or would like to enhance. Possibilities include: graphic design, photography/videography, writing/editing, presentation skills, budget tracking, project management, data organization, etc. Physical Demands: Work is primarily conducted at a computer/desk. Possibility of lifting and/or moving objects weighing up to 25 pounds (not required).
