Role Description As the Owner of the England Species Reintroductions Taskforce, the individual will provide strategic leadership, ensure clear direction of the Taskforce’s advisory work, and oversee alignment with national conservation priorities. This part-time, remote role involves setting priorities for evidence review, coordinating with the Chair and Secretariat, and approving guidance and recommendations related to species reintroductions. The Owner will engage with key stakeholders, including government departments, scientific experts, and conservation partners, to support transparent and robust advisory processes. Day-to-day activities include reviewing reports and proposals, contributing to policy discussions, providing oversight on governance and risk management, and supporting communications that explain the Taskforce’s role and decisions. The role also involves monitoring overall effectiveness of the Taskforce and identifying opportunities to strengthen its impact on species recovery in England.
Qualifications
- Strong background in conservation, ecology, or environmental policy, with experience in species recovery or biodiversity programs.
- Demonstrated leadership and governance experience, ideally in advisory groups, boards, or multi-stakeholder initiatives.
- Excellent strategic thinking and decision-making skills, with the ability to interpret complex scientific and technical information.
- Advanced communication skills, including the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and represent the Taskforce in public or policy forums.
- Experience working with government bodies, non-governmental organizations, or research institutions on environmental or conservation issues.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage a part-time workload effectively, and meet agreed timelines.
- Relevant advanced degree (e.g., in ecology, environmental science, conservation biology, public policy, or a related field) or equivalent professional experience.
- Commitment to evidence-based decision-making, transparency, and inclusive, non-discriminatory collaboration.
