Join the Monument Team!
Monument is a full-service Real Estate and Right-of-Way consulting firm based in California. Our clients include Federal, State, and local agencies and engineering consulting firms. Monument’s remote workplace model has been a cornerstone of our success for years, allowing us to deliver exceptional results while maintaining a highly engaged and connected workforce.
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Project Accounting & Contracts Administration Manager to join our growing real estate and right-of-way consulting organization. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, this position serves as the primary financial partner to Project Managers and operational leadership, overseeing project accounting, contract administration, client billing, revenue recognition, and financial reporting across a diverse portfolio of projects.
This is not a traditional accounting role. Candidates must have experience reviewing and administering client contracts, interpreting billing terms and deliverables, managing change orders, and supporting project financial performance. The ideal candidate has strong experience in project-based accounting environments, including complex contract structures, project cost management, client invoicing, and profitability analysis. This role requires a highly analytical professional who can manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring financial accuracy, contract compliance, and operational efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Project Accounting & Financial Management
- Manage financial activities for multiple active projects and client contracts.
- Establish and maintain project budgets, billing structures, cost codes, and reporting processes.
- Monitor project expenditures, labor utilization, and budget-to-actual performance.
- Ensure accurate allocation of labor, expenses, and overhead costs to projects.
- Analyze project profitability and provide financial recommendations to leadership.
- While this is a remote position, employees are expected to maintain a work schedule that aligns with California business hours (Pacific Time) and be available for meetings, customer interactions, and team collaboration during those hours.
Contract Administration & Compliance
- Review contracts and financial terms to ensure compliance with contractual requirements. Review client contracts and statements of work to identify billing requirements, revenue recognition implications, key financial obligations, and contractual risks.
- Monitor contract values, funding limits, amendments, and change orders.
- Coordinate with operations, project managers, and leadership to ensure project execution aligns with contractual terms and financial objectives.
- Maintain contract documentation and financial records.
- Partner with Project Managers to identify and address financial risks and contract-related issues.
Billing & Revenue Management
- Oversee timely and accurate client invoicing for various contract types.
- Review billing support documentation and client-specific invoicing requirements.
- Monitor work-in-progress (WIP), unbilled revenue, and accounts receivable.
- Assist in resolving billing discrepancies and client inquiries.
- Support proper revenue recognition and project forecasting activities.
Reporting & Business Analysis
- Prepare monthly project financial reports, dashboards, and performance analyses.
- Track key performance indicators, including project margins, utilization rates, revenue forecasts, budget variances, and contract performance.
- Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning initiatives.
- Provide meaningful financial insights to the CFO and operational leadership.
Process Improvement & Leadership
- Serve as the primary financial resource for Project Managers.
- Provide guidance on project financial processes, billing requirements, and contract compliance.
- Recommend improvements to project accounting procedures and internal controls.
- Support strategic initiatives and continuous improvement efforts directed by the CFO.
