Project Controls- Manager

Overview

Shermco Industries is seeing a Project Controls Manager. The Project Controls Manager is responsible for establishing and leading the project controls function within Shermco’s Project & Program Management Office. This role develops the standards, tools, reporting practices and governance required to provide consistent visibility into project cost, margin, schedule, change, risk and forecast performance across high-risk projects and strategic programs. The Project Controls Manager partners closely with Senior Project Managers, Program Managers, Operations, Finance, Estimating and other functional teams to improve predictability, identify performance issues early and support timely corrective action. Project Managers and Operations retain accountability for project delivery; Project Controls provides the discipline, analysis and transparency required to manage that performance effectively

Responsibilities

Project Controls Framework and Governance

• Establish and maintain Shermco’s project controls standards, procedures, templates, reporting requirements and governance expectations for PMO-supported work.

• Define minimum controls based on project size, complexity, contract type, schedule risk and financial exposure so the level of control is appropriate to the work.

• Standardize baseline development, forecast updates, variance analysis, change tracking, schedule controls, risk visibility and project performance reporting.

• Support PMO leadership in determining when enhanced project controls support is required for high-risk or strategically important work.

Cost, Margin and Forecasting Controls

• Oversee consistent tracking of approved project baseline, actual cost, committed cost, estimate to complete (ETC), estimate at completion (EAC), revenue, billing and projected gross margin.

• Develop and maintain forecasting practices that provide early visibility into margin movement, cost exposure and projected financial outcomes.

• Review significant variances and forecast changes with project leadership and help identify corrective actions or escalation needs.

• Partner with Finance and Operations to improve forecast accuracy, financial reconciliation and executive confidence in project reporting.

Schedule and Planning Controls

• Establish scheduling standards appropriate for Shermco’s mix of field service, outage, data center, industrial and multi-year project work.

• Provide oversight of baseline schedules, milestone plans, look-ahead schedules, critical-path reviews and schedule recovery planning.

• Ensure material, subcontractor, customer, resource and outage dependencies are reflected in project schedules where applicable.

Change, Risk and Commercial Visibility

• Establish consistent controls for change events, change-order tracking, unpriced exposure, pending customer decisions and commercial risks.

• Ensure project risk, issue and action information is incorporated into project controls reporting and escalated when financial, schedule or customer impact is material.

• Support project teams in connecting identified risk and change exposure to EAC, margin and schedule forecasts.

Reporting, Analytics and Leadership

• Develop project and portfolio dashboards that provide concise visibility into financial performance, schedule status, change exposure, risk and forecast trends.

• Lead recurring project controls reviews and support executive high-risk project reporting.

• Manage, coach and develop Project Controls Analysts and Project Schedulers/Planners as the function grows.

• Drive continuous improvement in data quality, reporting efficiency, project systems and controls maturity across the PMO.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Finance or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.

• Seven or more years of progressive experience in project controls, project management, cost control, scheduling or related project-delivery functions.

• Demonstrated experience supporting complex projects in industrial services, construction, utilities, electrical services, EPC, data centers or a comparable project environment.

• Experience developing or leading cost, schedule, forecasting and project reporting processes across multiple projects or business units.

• Prior leadership or functional ownership experience strongly preferred.

Travel 20-30%

Preferences

• PMP, AACE Certified Cost Professional (CCP), Planning & Scheduling Professional (PSP), PMI-SP or comparable professional certification.• Experience implementing or maturing a project controls function within a growing organization

USD $100,000.00 - USD $171,000.00 /Yr.
