Project Engineer / Federal Submittal Coordinator (Remote Contract)
Location: 100% Remote
Contract Length: Short-term Contract (1-3 Months)
*Federal Construction Experience Required
We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer / Federal Submittal Coordinator to support an active federal construction project. This is a fully remote, short-term contract opportunity (approximately 1-3 months) for someone who can make an immediate impact and help drive submittals from partial completion to fully compliant, government-ready submissions.
Candidates must have prior experience working on federal construction projects for a General Contractor. The ideal candidate understands the extensive documentation, compliance, and review requirements associated with federal projects and has hands-on experience managing submittals, coordinating with subcontractors, and ensuring complete and accurate project documentation.
This role is best suited for someone who takes ownership, is highly organized, and proactively follows up to keep projects moving forward and avoid costly delays.
Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate the full submittal process for an active federal construction project.
- Review plans, specifications, and contract requirements to identify required submittals and supporting documentation.
- Develop and maintain submittal logs, tracking systems, and document control processes.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to obtain complete and accurate submittal packages.
- Review shop drawings, product data, certifications, material documentation, and supporting information for compliance and completeness.
- Identify missing information, deficiencies, and documentation gaps prior to submission.
- Coordinate revisions and resubmittals resulting from government review comments.
- Proactively follow up with subcontractors and vendors through phone calls and direct communication to drive action and maintain schedules.
- Work closely with project management, field teams, and quality control personnel to prioritize critical-path submittals.
- Maintain organized project documentation and ensure compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience as a Project Engineer, Construction Coordinator, Project Coordinator, Document Control Specialist, or similar construction-related role.
- Experience supporting federal construction projects on the General Contractor (GC) side is required.
- Strong understanding of construction submittals, shop drawings, specifications, product data, and project documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Experience coordinating with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors.
- Strong organizational and document control skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management/document control software.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to hold project partners accountable while maintaining positive working relationships.
- Highly detail-oriented with the ability to identify compliance issues before submission.
Preferred Experience
- Federal, government, military, USACE, GSA, NPS, or other public-sector construction projects.
- Experience managing multiple submittals and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong understanding of federal compliance and documentation requirements.
- Ability to quickly step into a project and contribute with minimal training.
What We're Looking For
- Someone who takes ownership rather than simply processing paperwork.
- A proactive professional who follows up, solves problems, and drives results.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering accurate, compliant submittal packages.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with project teams.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
- 100% remote work environment
- Immediate-start, short-term contract assignment
- Opportunity to make a direct impact on a critical federal construction project
- High visibility with project leadership, subcontractors, vendors, and government stakeholders
- Exposure to federal construction processes, compliance, and documentation requirements
- Excellent opportunity for Project Engineers looking to strengthen their federal construction experience and expand their project management skill set
