Description Overview Tanaq Environmental, LLC. (Tanaq) delivers environmental engineering, investigation, consulting, and remediation services to local, state, and federal agencies in the areas of hazardous & toxic waste restoration, environmental compliance, emerging contaminants, and military munitions site management. Tanaq is a subsidiary of the St. George Tanaq Corporation, an Alaskan Native Corporation (ANC) committed to serving Federal customers while also giving back to the Alaskan native community and shareholders. Position Summary Tanaq is seeking a Project Geologist I (Part-time) to support geologic and hydrogeologic investigations for environmental restoration and emerging contaminants projects for federal government and commercial clients with oversight from a registered or certified Project Geologist. This position will work with other geologists, engineers, and field technicians on field investigations, including drilling and monitoring well installation oversight, sampling and monitoring, and site inspections. The Project Geologist will also provide technical support for Project Managers. This is a hybrid remote work role based anywhere in the U.S. and requires an estimated 60% or more travel annually within the United States, depending on project requirements. Responsibilities Independently leads geologic and hydrogeologic investigations with minimal oversight from Project Managers. Directs a team of staff geologists, engineers, field technicians, and/or subcontractors for field investigations that include well drilling and installation, environmental investigations, and remediation efforts at various project locations. Logs soil samples and drill cuttings and prepares soil boring logs and well construction records. Assists Project Managers by providing technical support for well-construction design based on lithologic findings; conducting aquifer testing to determine aquifer characteristics; and preparing reports including descriptions of geology, hydrogeology, nature and extent of contamination, and fate and transport of site contaminants. Supports Project Managers on procurement activities including coordinating with drilling subcontractors, preparing purchase orders, and reviewing invoices. Supports development of site remediation alternatives, including in situ and ex situ groundwater treatment. Leads groundwater, soil, sediment, and surface water sampling for laboratory analysis. Requirements Required Experience and Skills Minimum 5 years of related experience. Minimum of 3 years of overseeing and implementing safety programs for fieldwork. Minimum of 1-2 years of prior experience as a Field Lead. Responsible for field staff, subcontractors, and completion of on-site work safely and on schedule. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail. Organizational skills and ability to plan and manage multiple tasks. The ability to work independently and as part of a team to execute multiple assignments at various locations, providing a consistently high level of quality and accuracy. Valid driver's license and a clean driving record. Must be able to obtain clearance to access military bases and other federal government installations to perform job duties. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience working on federal government projects preferred. Experience with Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste (HTRW), per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) contamination, and other emerging contaminants, and environmental compliance preferred. Education and Training Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or Hydrogeology from an accredited institution. Professional Geologist (PG) or Registered Professional Geologist (RPG) certification or equivalent from at least one US State; National Association of State Boards of Geology (ASBOG) registration preferred. 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training with the current annual 8-hour update is preferred; training may be provided for otherwise qualified applicants. OSHA 30 Hour Construction certification is preferred; training may be provided for otherwise qualified applicants. Physical Requirements Must be able and willing to travel to visit job sites, attend client meetings, and/or attend professional or technical conferences, and the ability to travel, typically 75% or more annually, in the United States. Physically able, with or without accommodation, to work in outdoor environments with uneven terrain and variable outdoor conditions including heat, cold, dust, noise, chemicals, moisture, dryness, and vibration. This position requires the ability to perform physical activities associated with field work, including walking long distances, climbing ladders, and carrying equipment. Bending, kneeling, stooping, and reaching are essential functions of the job. Position requires frequent (more than 50% of workday) performance of repetitive bending & stooping, standing/walking, power gripping/squeezing (hand tools, levers, etc.), operation of vehicles, and lifting less than 25-50 pounds. Often (25-50% of workday) performing work with arms above shoulder level, and keyboard/mouse operations. Occasionally (10-25% of workday) performing repetitive fine hand movements and lifting 50-75 pounds. Rarely (less than 10% of workday), climbing stairs, using portable ladders, working in an environment of heavy, moving, dangerous equipment, and working in confined spaces. Position will require wearing associated personal protective equipment, including, but not limited to safety glasses/goggles, gloves, safety shoes/boots, hard hats/safety helmets, hearing protection, and respirator. Good near and far vision (corrected to 20/40) is necessary to accurately measure instruments, record data in field logs, and identify potential hazards in the field. Must be able to work in a hybrid remote work arrangement with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and while working on a computer. Who We Are Tanaq Environmental, LLC.
