Come join the Infrastructure Services (IS) team within the Building Great Neighbourhoods Branch as a Project Manager with the Open Spaces Planning and Design (OSPD) section! We work collaboratively to shape the future of Edmonton's existing and new open space amenities.

In this role, you will play a pivotal part in leading the planning and design phases of key open space infrastructure projects. You will oversee project deliverables, manage budgets and timelines, and cultivate strong relationships with community partners and internal business partners. What will you do?

  • Manage the planning and design phases of open space infrastructure projects, including operational and strategic initiatives, resource management, and financial oversight
  • Review feasibility studies, functional programs, design reports, drawings, and technical specifications
  • Define project goals, objectives, and deliverables in alignment with Strategy and Operate Business Partners and Project Sponsors
  • Align project management activities and outcomes with corporate policy, strategic plans, design standards, and guidelines
  • Lead multi-disciplinary project teams consisting of consultants, contractors, internal business partners, and engagement participants
  • Monitor and report on project health, ensuring initiatives remain on budget, on schedule, and within defined scope and quality expectations
  • Perform thorough risk management, identifying potential risks and implementing proactive mitigation strategies
  • Develop and implement robust public engagement activities and communication plans in collaboration with Communications & Engagement advisors
  • Respond to project inquiries and represent the branch in steering committee, site, and liaison meetings
  • Document project activities in compliance with City policies, project management methodologies, and regulatory requirements
  • Manage procurement and contract processes, including preparing requests for proposals (RFPs), evaluating submissions, and recommending contract awards
  • Oversee and coordinate the work of external consultants and contractors to deliver quality outcomes
  • Prepare detailed project reports and presentations for City Council, the Executive Leadership Team, and IS Leadership
  • Ensure project operations abide by City of Edmonton Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) standards
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of departmental project management tools, processes, and practices
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

:
  • Degree in Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Science, Planning, Business, or Project Management with a minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible project management experience

OR

  • Diploma in Engineering, Construction, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Science, Horticulture, Project Management, or a related trade certification with a minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible project management experience

Assets:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation or eligibility for professional registration (e.g., APEGA, AALA/CSLA, APPI/CIP)
  • Experience working within municipal government or public sector infrastructure environments

Skills required for success:

  • Strong project management skills grounded in established methodologies and best practices (such as PMBOK)
  • Proven track record leading multi-disciplinary teams in the delivery of complex design and planning projects
  • Demonstrated organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience designing and implementing engagement processes with community partners and interested and/or affected parties
  • Strong conflict resolution, negotiation, and facilitation skills to address complex issues constructively
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including formal report writing and executive presentations
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships and work effectively across integrated teams
  • Experience managing external consultants and contract deliverables
  • Proven ability to delegate effectively and empower team members
  • Comprehensive understanding of construction processes across landscaping, architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines
  • Demonstrated experience leading the planning and design phases of open space amenities

Conditions of Employment:

  • Compliance with City of Edmonton Occupational Health and Safety Standards, guidelines, and safety policies
  • Candidates are required to hold a valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) or higher. Candidates will be required to arrange their own transportation and, where appropriate, will be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require the candidate to obtain business-use auto insurance

Work Environment:

  • This position ​may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement ​with ​the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52. ​

Salary Range: $54.155 - $69.110 (Hourly); $95,407.570 - $121,754.540 (Annually)
