Project Manager / Estimator — Allen Supply, LLC
Location: Remote (targeting Southwest and Southeast Michigan construction areas) | Reports to: Operations Manager | Travel: Regional jobsite and customer visits, mostly within the Great Lakes Bay Region
About Allen Supply
Allen Supply is a distributor of construction materials specializing in hollow metal doors, wood doors, frames, and door hardware (CSI Division 8). We serve contractors, builders, and building owners from three locations in Saginaw, MI; Traverse City, MI; and Jackson, TN. Our team takes pride in knowing the product, standing behind the quote, and following every job through to the last delivery and punch list. We're a growing company, which means real room to take on more responsibility and build your career with us.
The Opportunity
We're looking for a hands-on Project Manager / Estimator to win and deliver door, frame, and hardware projects out of our Saginaw branch. You'll read the plans, build the bid, and then own the job from award through closeout: submittals, ordering, deliveries, change orders, and final billing. This role suits someone who knows Division 08, likes running their own projects, and wants to see the results on the jobsite and in the margin.
What You'll Do
Estimating & Bidding
• Review plans, specifications, door schedules, and addenda to prepare accurate door, frame, and hardware takeoffs and quotes
• Build estimates covering material, freight, labor (where applicable), lead times, and margin; obtain and compare vendor pricing
• Identify scope gaps, exclusions, and value-engineering alternatives, and document clarifications clearly in each proposal
• Submit bids on deadline and maintain a log of bids, win/loss results, and pricing history
• Build relationships with general contractors, subcontractors, architects, and owners in the Saginaw market
Project Management & Delivery
• Own the turnover from estimate to awarded project: review contracts and purchase orders, confirm scope, and set up the job
• Prepare and track submittals, hardware schedules, door and frame shop drawings, and product data through approval
• Order materials, coordinate with vendors on lead times, and schedule deliveries to match the jobsite schedule
• Serve as the customer's primary contact; attend project meetings and visit jobsites as needed
• Manage change orders, RFIs, and backorders, and communicate cost or schedule impacts promptly
• Close out projects: final deliveries, punch items, warranty documents, and final billing
Job Cost & Billing
• Track job costs against the estimate and flag margin risks early
• Support progress billing and pay applications, and work with accounting on collections and retainage
Branch & Process Support
• Work with branch sales, purchasing, and warehouse staff to keep projects and inventory aligned
• Help improve estimating templates, pricing tools, and project processes as the company grows
What Success Looks Like in Year One
• Accurate, on-time bids with a tracked bid log and an improving hit rate
• Awarded projects delivered at or above bid margin
• Submittals and hardware schedules approved with minimal resubmittals
• On-time deliveries with few backorder surprises on site
• Strong working relationships with key general contractors in the Saginaw market
What You Bring
• 5+ years of estimating and/or project management experience in construction, building products supply, or a related trade. Frames, doors, and hardware preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and perform accurate takeoffs
• Product knowledge in hollow metal and wood doors, frames, and door hardware (Divisions 08 and 10); DHI certification (AHC/CDC) a plus
• Experience with Pro-Tech and related door and hardware bid software; Bluebeam or similar takeoff tools a plus
• Strong math and Excel skills
• Familiarity with commercial contracts, submittal processes, AIA pay applications, and retainage
• Associate's or bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience
• Existing relationships with contractors in the Saginaw / Bay City / Midland area a plus
• Valid driver's license and ability to visit active jobsites
Who Thrives Here
• People who own their projects from takeoff to final invoice
• Detail-minded estimators who catch scope gaps at quote time and send RFIs during bidding, so issues are resolved before the job is awarded.
• Clear communicators who earn trust with contractors, vendors, and our warehouse team
• People with a sense of urgency and ownership who do well in a lean, growing company
Benefits
• Performance bonus
• Medical, dental, and vision insurance
• 401(k) with company match
• Paid time off and paid holidays
• Mileage reimbursement
• The chance to help shape a growing company and grow your career alongside it
