ABOUT MEDEFER

Medefer is a pioneer in virtual-first specialist healthcare. Founded by NHS consultants over a decade ago, we were delivering consultant-led virtual outpatient care well before “virtual hospitals” became a national priority. Our model has since been cited in government and NHS England material on the NHS Online vision as one of the service models informing this direction.

We sit at the intersection of clinical provider and technology company. Our CQC-registered service is powered by Medefer’s own electronic health record and referral platform, connecting GPs, consultants, diagnostic providers and hospitals into a single coordinated system. This approach has won multiple national awards for elective recovery, innovation and impact, and we now serve both NHS partners and private patients across the UK.

Medefer is built on three principles: innovate to solve real system problems, collaborate with clinicians and partners, and put patients first in every decision. As we scale across Integrated Care Systems and grow our private services, joining now means helping to define what modern specialist care looks like - and owning the financial strategy behind it.

JOB TITLE: Project Manager

REPORTING TO: Director of Operations

LOCATION: Remote

CONTRACT: Permanent, Full Time

SALARY: £50,000 per annum

Join us in our mission to transform patient care and be part of a dynamic and innovative team. We pride ourselves on a supportive, collaborative and inclusive culture and you will have the opportunity to work alongside a team of intelligent, driven and compassionate people who care deeply about transforming the way healthcare is delivered.

ROLE OVERVIEW:

Help turn new healthcare partnerships into services that make a difference to patients.

We’re looking for an experienced Project Manager to lead delivery partner implementations and internal strategic projects. Reporting to the Director of Operations, you’ll work with NHS Trusts, independent providers and primary care organisations, taking projects from initial planning through to go-live and operational handover.

This is a hands-on role for someone who can manage several projects at once, bring people together and keep delivery moving.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own project delivery: lead partner implementations and internal projects, developing robust plans with clear timelines, milestones, dependencies and critical paths.

  • Build strong partnerships: establish effective relationships with senior managers, clinicians and operational colleagues across partner organisations.

  • Keep actions moving: influence internal and external stakeholders, resolve obstacles and escalate risks or delays when needed.

  • Lead implementation meetings: chair meetings and facilitate workshops, deputising for the Director of Operations at the weekly internal Implementation Meeting.

  • Manage plans in Asana: maintain accurate project plans, risk and issue logs, and act as the internal expert supporting consistent use of the platform.

  • Oversee readiness for launch: coordinate partner configuration and deployment, ensuring user acceptance testing is completed before go-live.

  • Coordinate service launches: align partners and internal teams around delivery dates, responsibilities and communications.

  • Ensure effective handover: take operational accountability for new services during implementation and transfer ownership to the Service Delivery team once established.

  • Provide clear reporting: communicate progress and give assurance to the Implementation Group and Senior Leadership Team.

  • Improve future delivery: lead post-project evaluations, apply lessons learned and contribute to the clinical governance framework where required.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • At least five years’ experience in project & programme management.

  • Substantial experience in operational healthcare delivery.

  • A relevant project management qualification, such as PRINCE2 or Agile.

  • A degree or equivalent experience.

  • Experience developing and managing relationships with partner organisations.

  • Confidence using project management tools to manage concurrent projects, dependencies, risks and deadlines.

  • Excellent influencing and communication skills, including working effectively with senior managers and clinicians.

  • A practical, organised approach and the confidence to take ownership of delivery.

  • We’re looking for someone who is proactive, accountable and calm under pressure—comfortable challenging delays, adapting plans and working collaboratively to achieve results.

  • Experience using Asana would be particularly valuable.

WHY JOIN MEDEFER:

You’ll join a supportive, collaborative team with the opportunity to influence how services develop as we grow. Our values—Patient First, Inventive and Collaborative—guide how we work.

We offer:

  • Remote working.

  • 28 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays.

  • Private healthcare insurance and a workplace pension.

  • Employee discounts and an Employee Assistance Programme.

  • Wellbeing support, including access to GP and counselling services.

  • Training, career development and opportunities for progression.

WORKING ARRANGEMENTS AND KEY TERMS:

This is a permanent position working 35 hours over five days per week, typically within 8am–5pm. You’ll need the right to work in the UK and a private, confidential workspace at home.

Appointment is subject to two satisfactory employment references, including your most recent employer, and a relevant DBS check funded by Medefer. Safeguarding is a core responsibility of the role.
